Accordingly, the construction location of this special museum is in the Northeast of the Ben Hai River junction, part of the planning for the preservation, restoration and rehabilitation of the Hien Luong - Ben Hai Special National Monument (Hien Luong village, Hien Thanh commune, Vinh Linh district).
After the construction location is agreed upon, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province is responsible for completing the project to build the Museum "Memories of War and Aspiration for Peace" on schedule.
Previously, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism surveyed 3 locations including: Northeast of Ben Hai River junction; National Highway 1 intersection with National Highway 1 bypass (Phong Binh commune, Gio Linh district) and Khe May lakeside (Ward 3, Dong Ha city).
After discussion, the location northeast of the Ben Hai River junction was chosen for many special reasons. First of all, this is the location in the middle of Quang Tri province (new) after merging with Quang Binh province, located on National Highway 1, convenient for traveling to other tourist destinations.
The construction of the Museum of “Memories of War and Aspiration for Peace” in the Hien Luong - Ben Hai National Special Monument, which has twice witnessed the pain of dividing the two parts of the country, will create a highlight of a space and time complex, fully expressing the pain and loss caused by war as well as the aspiration for peace of today's and future generations.
After construction, the project will be promoted because it is located in the special relic complex of Hien Luong - Ben Hai (currently, at the special national relic site of Hien Luong - Ben Hai, there is a relic management board, attracting about 50,000 visitors annually), convenient road and waterway traffic connection, located near the DMZ tourist route and tourist attractions, relics in Quang Tri province...
It is known that the project to build the Museum "Memories of War and Aspiration for Peace" is carried out based on the conclusion of the National Assembly Chairman in Notice No. 1813/TB-VPQH dated July 31, 2023 and implementing Notice No. 101-TB/VPTW dated October 28, 2024 of the Central Party Office, the direction of the Prime Minister in Document No. 8386/VPCP-QHDP dated November 15, 2024 on assigning Quang Tri province to study the construction of the War Remnants Museum in Quang Tri province to educate patriotic traditions and attract tourists.
The Museum of “Memories of War and Aspiration for Peace” will convey messages, content, and recreate wartime stories, the desire for peace and national unity to domestic and foreign tourists, while leaving an important highlight for the DMZ and war memories tourism route...
Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee proposed that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism include the museum project in the feasibility study report of the National Target Program on Cultural Development for the 2025-2035 period, in which it proposed to implement the project for the 2026-2030 period with a total budget of VND1,000 billion, and it was approved.
