According to the Shanghai Songjiang District Government, the digital factory in the G60 Starlink Industrial Zone has produced its first commercial satellite. By 2024, the factory will launch and operate at least 108 satellites to provide initial commercial services, and will also build a full industrial chain that can compete globally by 2027.
Cao Jin, general manager of Shanghai Gesi Aerospace Technology, a state-owned company set up in 2022 to operate the G60 Starlink factory, said the factory's planned production capacity is 300 satellites per year.
With mass production capabilities, the time it takes to build a satellite will drop from about two to three months to a day and a half, according to the South China Morning Post. However, this is still lower than SpaceX's production rate of six satellites per day. In the context of escalating competition with the US, China's push to promote the commercial satellite market is expected to play an important role in pioneering technology.

The 12,000-satellite G60 Starlink project, along with the 13,000-satellite Guo Wang national network under construction, is seen as China's response to billionaire Elon Musk's Starlink technology. The project was launched in 2016, with the Shanghai government announcing plans for the satellite cluster in 2021. The satellite cluster is an important link in the aerospace information industry, where the industrial chain includes satellites, data application services, artificial intelligence and deep learning to support the processing of the huge amount of data collected by satellites.
According to China Fortune Securities Company (China), China's aerospace information industry is expected to reach 6.26 billion USD by 2025. This industry has accounted for 73% of the global commercial space market share, reaching about 384 billion USD by 2022.
