MH students said that every year the school usually collects tuition fees after Tet, but this year the announcement was made too early.
"The time before Tet requires a lot of money to manage, especially for tickets to go home. If the school collects fees so early, I'm afraid I'll "lose Tet". Within 2 weeks, I can't earn 20 million VND" - student H. sighed.
Similarly, a student in the city said he had bought a ticket to go home to celebrate Tet with his family. When he received the notice from the school, P. "froze", not daring to tell his family for fear of putting pressure on his parents.
"Not only me, this morning many other students also applied for an extension. We really hope the school will consider and postpone the tuition payment deadline so that everyone can celebrate Tet happily" - P. expressed.
In the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade has about 21,000 students. The tuition fee for 1 theoretical credit is 863,000 VND and 1.1 million VND for 1 practical credit.
Speaking to reporters at noon on December 31, MSc. Pham Thai Son, Director of the Admissions and Communications Center - Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said that on December 30, the school announced the collection of tuition fees for the second semester of the 2024-2025 school year. The deadline for tuition payment is January 15, 2025.
Students pay tuition fees through the online payment gateway of banks. After January 15, students who have not completed their tuition payment obligations will have their registered courses canceled and their names will not be on the class list.
MSc. Son affirmed that the school collects tuition fees according to plan, not in a rush as posted on social networks.
"In previous years, the second semester usually started after Tet, but this year Tet comes earlier. At this time, students have completed registering for the second semester, so paying tuition is a matter of course," said MSc. Son.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hoan, Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said that the school has received students' opinions and concerns. Students have more than 2 weeks to pay tuition.
During this process, if there are any difficulties, the school will support students to resolve them so that their studies are not interrupted. In case they cannot pay their tuition fees on time, students can apply for an extension and the school will resolve it. 100% of students who apply for an extension of their tuition fees will be resolved by the school.
"When students register for a course, the software has arranged classes according to a certain number of students. If students do not pay tuition (or register but do not renew) but still open classes, it will lead to waste in each class" - Associate Professor Hoan explained.
