Students scared after clip of them changing clothes at photo studio leaked on "dark" web

(Dan Tri) - The incident of a female student being secretly filmed while changing clothes in a photobooth in Hanoi, and then the clip being posted on a "black" website, has shocked and left many students losing faith.

“After this incident, I will probably never change clothes or go to the toilet in a public area again,” said Khanh My (21 years old), a final year student in Ho Chi Minh City.

Following the incident on social media, My was shocked. She said that every time she went to a photo studio with her friends or used a public restroom, she always felt worried about being watched or secretly filmed. Therefore, she often limited changing clothes or going to the restroom in public to avoid similar situations.

A young woman was secretly filmed and a sensitive clip was released on the "dark" web in the fitting room of a photo studio (Photo: NV).

“Sometimes when I express my worries, my friends reassure me, saying that secret filming is rare and usually only happens in deserted places. But after this incident, I believe my hunch is right even more,” My said.

She and her group of friends had planned to go to a photo studio this weekend to take souvenir photos and even had ideas for costumes. However, the group had to put their plans on hold.

"It was so scary. I didn't think anyone could put a camera in such a private place. We talked about not taking pictures, everyone felt creepy," she said.

Since the incident, My and her friends have become more vigilant.

“Now when I go shopping or into a fitting room, I have to check every corner. I don’t even feel safe in the restroom at school. I feel like I’m living in a world where anyone can secretly film me at any time. Taking souvenir photos doesn’t make me happy anymore,” My shared.

Quang Linh, a first-year student in Ho Chi Minh City, shares the same sentiment. He said that he and his friends love taking souvenir photos, and almost every month they spend a portion of their living expenses to go to photo booths. The fee here is only a few tens of thousands of VND per photo shoot, and the service easily brings joy to young people.

"Every time I take a photo it's a memory, but now I'm shy," Linh said.

After learning about the incident, Linh said that if he went to take pictures, he would not use the shop's dressing room but would choose simple costumes that he brought along. However, this also significantly reduced the joy of the whole group.

“Before, I thought I just had to be careful. But now I see that even if I did nothing wrong, I can still become a victim. A tiny camera can ruin someone’s life,” Linh said, her voice breaking.

According to Linh, not only the changing room, but also the photo booths do not guarantee absolute privacy, most of them are only covered by a thin curtain that can be easily lifted or have recording devices installed that are difficult for users to detect.

The incident not only left her with fear, but also evoked a sense of loss of faith and innocence of youth. Linh even worried that her data was stored at the photobooth, edited and used for bad purposes.

“We just wanted to take pictures for fun, to remember our school days. Now everyone is cautious and no longer dares to smile innocently in front of the camera,” Linh said.

After the incident, Linh’s parents called to remind their son to avoid changing clothes or going to the bathroom in public. Although he had reassured his family with similar warnings before, this time Linh completely agreed with his parents.

“What would happen if the person in the clip was me? How can I ensure absolute safety when going to public places? I have to admit that changing clothes and using public restrooms are things that are difficult to completely avoid for the rest of my life,” Linh wondered.

Ms. Cat Tuong, an office worker in Ho Chi Minh City, also expressed concern because her younger sister also enjoys taking pictures at photobooths.

"If the secretly filmed victim was my relative, I really wouldn't be able to bear the shock. Being secretly filmed can affect the victim's spirit, leaving serious damage to the victim. I think there needs to be stronger sanctions and educational measures to prevent similar incidents," said Ms. Tuong.
