To date, many universities in Ho Chi Minh City have finalized their Lunar New Year holiday schedules for the year 2026 (Year of the Horse). Most universities are giving students a break of about 3-4 weeks, while some have longer breaks than the average.

Among the universities with extended breaks, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law is giving students a break from January 31, 2026 to March 1, 2026; Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance is arranging a full month-long break, from February 1 to March 1, 2026.
Several other universities are giving students a break of approximately 29 days, from February 9th to March 1st, 2026, including Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, University of Science (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City), Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture, and Gia Dinh University.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry plans to give students a break of approximately 28 days, from February 2nd to March 1st, 2026; Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade announced a break lasting 4 weeks, from February 9th to March 8th, 2026.
Meanwhile, some specialized schools have shorter holiday periods. Students at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy and Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine will have a 19-day Tet holiday, from February 9th to 27th, 2026, which is in line with the training and practice requirements of the medical field.
Besides arranging a centralized Tet holiday break, some universities in Ho Chi Minh City are implementing flexible online learning options before and after Tet. The University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City is giving students and lecturers a two-week Tet holiday break, while also organizing online teaching for one week before and one week after the official holiday.
The University of Economics and Law (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) also applies a similar approach, allowing students more time at home during Tet while still ensuring their academic progress, reducing travel pressure and train/bus ticket costs.
Representatives from the universities stated that the Tet holiday schedule is based on the training plan, the learning progress of each semester, and the actual conditions of students, especially those from outside the province. The holiday schedule is usually announced early so that students can proactively arrange their personal plans.
According to the 2025-2026 academic year plan, the Lunar New Year holiday schedule for students in Ho Chi Minh City may be further adjusted to suit the actual situation and will be officially announced to students by the schools in the near future.
