According to VNA special correspondent, on October 29 (local time), in London, UK, General Secretary To Lam met with British Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy within the framework of his official visit to the UK.
At the meeting, General Secretary To Lam congratulated Mr. David Lammy on his appointment as Deputy Prime Minister of the UK and expressed his gratitude to the Deputy Prime Minister for always paying attention to and promoting relations with Vietnam.
The General Secretary announced that he had held talks and meetings with the British Prime Minister and leaders of the British Parliament to discuss major directions and measures to promote the bilateral relationship to develop more comprehensively and strongly through all channels of the Party, State, Government, National Assembly and people.
General Secretary To Lam shared that Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy was the first British leader that the General Secretary met after the two countries officially upgraded their relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and suggested that immediately after the visit, the two governments should develop an Action Plan, quickly consolidate existing cooperation mechanisms and establish new necessary mechanisms to promote cooperation, enhance political trust, soon bring the two countries' trade turnover to the target of 15 billion USD, seek and implement a number of lighthouse projects, typical of the good bilateral relationship.
Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy stressed that the two countries' upgrading of relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is a historic moment and affirmed that the two nations have a long-standing tradition of friendship and great potential to continue to develop stronger relations.
The British Deputy Prime Minister hopes that the two sides' priority areas of cooperation in the coming time will be economics-trade, defense-security, energy, innovation, aviation, and maritime security and safety. Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy affirmed his support for creating favorable conditions for visa issuance for highly skilled workers.

General Secretary To Lam hopes that the British Government leaders will soon visit Vietnam to enhance exchanges and promote cooperation. The General Secretary invited the Deputy Prime Minister to visit Vietnam in the near future. Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy happily accepted the invitation to visit Vietnam soon.
Before the meeting, General Secretary To Lam and the Deputy Prime Minister met with the leadership of the Vietnam-UK Friendship Network, chaired by Mr. Mark Kent, former British Ambassador to Vietnam.
The Vietnam-UK Friendship Network, established in 2013, is a group of organizations and individuals in the UK interested in Vietnam to promote cooperation between the two countries in many fields, including trade, education, exchange, culture, etc., contributing to enhancing understanding and friendship between the people and agencies and organizations of the two countries./.
