Song Ma takes care of mangoes for export

The green-skinned mango tree has taken root and been associated with the people of Song Ma district for many years. The product is sold in the domestic market and for export, bringing a stable source of income to the people. At this time, households are focusing on taking care of the tree to have a bumper crop.

Visiting the family of Mr. Nguyen Van Vuong, a member of the Song Ma Mango Agricultural Service Cooperative in Na Nghiu Commune, who is focusing on pruning and caring for more than 4 hectares of Taiwanese mangoes. Mr. Vuong shared: This year, the weather is favorable, the mangoes bear a lot of fruit, and there are few pests and diseases. The family is focusing on hilling, fertilizing the third time, pruning branches and fruits, bagging fruits, and using an irrigation system, spraying biological products to prevent pests and diseases. The family is striving to harvest 38-40 tons of fruit this season.

Song Ma Mango Agricultural Service Cooperative in Na Nghiu commune has 7 members, growing 10 hectares of mango, certified for production according to VietGAP standards. Members of the cooperative strictly follow the care process, meeting the standards of each domestic and export market. Currently, a number of traditional companies and enterprises have contacted to place orders to supply to the system of wholesale markets, domestic supermarkets and export to the Chinese market.

In Chieng Cang commune, there are more than 200 hectares of mangoes. Mr. Quang Van Long, Chairman of the People's Committee of Chieng Cang commune, said: The commune's annual mango output is about 2,200 tons of fruit. 7 mango growing cooperatives in the area always implement good care techniques, improve productivity and quality; link production and proactively sign product consumption contracts. This year, we strive to export more than 100 tons of mangoes to the Chinese market.

Song Ma has 1,813 hectares of mangoes, concentrated in the communes of Chieng Khuong, Chieng Cang, Chieng Khoong, Na Nghiu, Chieng So, and Muong Lam. Of these, 24 hectares are granted export growing area codes to the Chinese market; 82 hectares of mangoes are grown according to VietGAP standards; 120 hectares apply irrigation technology in mango care. This year, with favorable weather, mango output is expected to reach 13,300 tons.

Ms. Lo Thi Bach, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Song Ma district, said: The Department has advised the District People's Committee to issue many documents on managing raw material areas; promoting the application of VietGAP production processes, granting codes for growing areas and strictly monitoring the production process. Promoting trade promotion activities, advertising, consuming and exporting agricultural products; creating favorable conditions for enterprises to sign product consumption contracts with mango growing cooperatives; selecting enterprises and cooperatives with sufficient capacity to act as focal points for collecting, processing, consuming and exporting mango products, gradually forming a sustainable production chain.

The District Agricultural Service Center assigns technical staff to be in charge of each facility that is granted VietGAP certification, and the facility that is granted an export growing area code to guide people on how to use some pesticides to prevent planthoppers and stem borers; then cover and fertilize the fruit, water, and prune the branches that bear fruit. Strengthen inspection and supervision so that people are not allowed to use banned pesticides.

With the drastic participation of local authorities, the initiative and responsibility of people in complying with technical procedures, this year's mango crop in Song Ma district is expected to achieve high yield, with the goal of exporting nearly 500 tons of mango.
