Sri Lanka wants to learn from Vietnam's experience in attracting FDI

(Chinhphu.vn) - Continuing the program of visiting and working in Sri Lanka, the delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam led by Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, met with Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, met with General Secretary of the ruling People's Liberation Front Party T. Silva, visited and talked with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Sri Lanka.

At the meeting with the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia congratulated the Sri Lankan Government on its achievements in stabilizing the macro -economy , gradually restoring economic growth and improving people's lives; wished the Sri Lankan Government to complete its socio-economic development goals in the coming time; affirmed that Vietnam and Sri Lanka have a special traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries is developing well in many fields.

The Party and State of Vietnam attach importance to the important role and position of Sri Lanka in the region; wish to further deepen relations with Sri Lanka based on the tradition of close friendship, high political trust and the two countries sharing many similar values ​​and interests. Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia suggested that the two sides actively coordinate to effectively implement high-level agreements, especially the results of the recent visit to Vietnam by President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka; strengthen political relations through exchanges of high-level delegations and at all levels, both on the Party, State and people-to-people channels, and take specific measures to further enhance the effectiveness of cooperation in the fields of economy, investment, trade, defense, security, tourism, culture,education and training, and promote cooperation between people's organizations and businesses of the two countries.

Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya was pleased to welcome the delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam to visit at a time when the relationship between the two countries has developed very well, especially with many exchange activities on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Sri Lanka. Praising Vietnam's economic development achievements in recent years, the Sri Lankan Prime Minister said that the two sides need to have specific discussions to create conditions to promote economic cooperation such as visa exemption and reduction, promoting cooperation in tourism, culture, education, and student exchange; said that Sri Lanka wants to learn from Vietnam's experience in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI), affirming that Sri Lanka wishes and is ready to create conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to invest directly or establish joint ventures in Sri Lanka.

Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia and Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya expressed their agreement on future cooperation directions such as strengthening cooperation between the two ruling parties and soon establishing a direct flight route to facilitate cooperation in tourism, education and training, cultural and people-to-people exchange.

In a friendly exchange with comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia and the delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam, comrade T. Silva, General Secretary of the People's Liberation Front (JVP) - the ruling party in Sri Lanka, affirmed that many generations of leaders and members of the JVP always love the Vietnamese people, respect President Ho Chi Minh, expressed admiration for the great victories of our people in the previous resistance wars as well as the achievements in socio-economic development today when witnessing Vietnam achieving a high and stable economic growth rate, wishing to learn from Vietnam's experience in economic development, education, agriculture and science and technology.

Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia thanked the JVP for its support and good feelings for Vietnam; suggested that the two ruling parties promote cooperative relations to create more sustainable political trust through the exchange of party leadership delegations, theoretical exchanges as well as cooperation and experience sharing in the fields of science, art, journalism, information, and mass mobilization.

Visiting and exchanging with the Embassy staff and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Sri Lanka, Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia informed about the recent socio-economic situation of Vietnam; encouraged, welcomed and appreciated the efforts of the Embassy staff in promoting the cooperative relationship between the two countries and creating solidarity and close connection with the Vietnamese community in difficult conditions and a small payroll. Listening to the opinions of the community representatives, the Head of the Delegation suggested that in the coming time, the Embassy staff and the community continue to promote achievements and sense of responsibility, promote the values ​​and good qualities of the Vietnamese people and culture in Sri Lanka, turn to the homeland, develop the economy, contribute to the development of Sri Lanka and the good relations between the two countries.
