VnExpressVnExpress18/11/2023

After 12 years of unfinished work, the 73 km long project through Binh Duong , Tay Ninh and Long An with a cost of more than 2,200 billion VND has resumed construction, expected to be completed in 2025.

On the morning of November 18, the Ministry of Transport and the People's Committee of Binh Duong province organized the re-start of the Ho Chi Minh road project, Chon Thanh - Duc Hoa section, through Binh Duong province.

The Ho Chi Minh Road project, Chon Thanh - Duc Hoa section, was invested in and built in 2009 and was expected to be completed by the end of 2021. However, in 2011, the project had to stop due to funding difficulties. Restarting the project will help complete the unfinished construction items, contributing to connecting the route through the Southeast axis, connecting the Central Highlands and the Mekong Delta provinces.

The route is about 73 km long, starting at Tru Van Tho commune, Bau Bang district (Binh Duong) and ending at the intersection with National Highway N2, Duc Hoa district (Long An) with a total investment of 2,293 billion VND.

Of which, the cost of compensation for site clearance and resettlement support is 264 billion VND; construction cost is more than 1,667 billion VND; project management, consulting and other costs are more than 125 billion VND... The section through Binh Duong alone is 31.6 km long, with a cost of 680 billion VND, constructed by Deo Ca Group, and is expected to be completed in two years.

In phase one, the road will be built with 2 lanes, 12 m wide roadbed, 11 m wide road surface, and in the final phase, it will be 6 lanes, 32 m wide. Along the route, 14 bridges will be built (11 bridges are still under construction and 3 new bridges are built), with a design speed of 100 km/h.

Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Duy Lam said that the Southeast region is the economic and social center of the country, with the role of an economic locomotive. However, the region's overloaded and unsynchronized transport infrastructure system has hindered the region's economic growth.

The Ho Chi Minh Road, Chon Thanh - Duc Hoa section, is a section of the North - South Expressway planning in the West of the country. This project helps to create momentum to promote socio-economic development, attract investment, and expand the space for urban development, industry, trade, tourism, and services in the area.

According to the leader of the Ministry of Transport, when completed, the project will connect smoothly and shorten the time from the Central Highlands provinces through the Southeast with the Southwest provinces, reducing the load on existing roads.

Ho Chi Minh Road stretches from Pac Bo (Cao Bang) to Dat Mui (Ca Mau), 2,744 km long, with a minimum scale of 2 lanes. According to the National Assembly Resolution, the road must be completed by 2020, but by mid-2022 only 2,362 km and 258 km of branch lines have been completed, with 211 km currently under construction. The remaining 171 km are expected to require 10,700 billion VND, including two sections Rach Soi - Ben Nhat and Go Quao - Vinh Thuan.
