The Bay Hoang dried banana production facility of Mr. Tran Duy Thanh's family (Hamlet 10B, Tran Hoi Commune) has been in the business for more than 30 years. In the early years, from a small-scale production facility, the dried banana products were made in the traditional manual way, naturally sun-dried, depending on the weather. Although the dried banana products were very delicious and golden, on rainy days, the high humidity caused the bananas to ferment, causing great damage to the facility.
In 2017, Mr. Thanh researched and boldly invested in a 250 million VND drying system; with the advice and support of the Center for Industrial Promotion and Trade Promotion, implemented under the local industrial promotion project "Support for the application of dried banana drying equipment - Tran Van Thoi district", supported 125 million VND. Previously, working manually, Mr. Thanh's family exported over 10 tons of finished dried bananas/month. Since putting machines into production, productivity has doubled and they can work all year round, no longer depending on the weather.
Based on the actual needs as well as the development orientation of the facility to diversify products and expand the consumption market, by October 2024, Bay Hoang dried banana facility decided to invest in new machinery and equipment to produce the new product "dried banana" (whole dried banana), with a total investment cost of more than 1.5 billion VND. In which, the Industrial Promotion Center supports the local industrial promotion group project in 2024 on "Supporting the application of machinery and equipment in food production" with a local industrial promotion fund of 112.5 million VND.
With a modern drying system, on average each month, Mr. Tran Duy Thanh's facility produces about 13 tons of dried banana products, equivalent to 52 tons of fresh raw bananas.
Mr. Thanh shared that the advantage of this drying system is that the drying air is circulated in the dryer, saving energy and minimizing environmental pollution. Designed specifically with 3 power levels, it not only helps the whole dried banana product but also the dried banana product to be dried evenly, preserving the color, flavor, and nutrition of the product, ensuring food hygiene and safety, saving time and production costs, no longer depending on the weather, improving productivity, product quality, increasing economic efficiency and competitiveness in the market. With the support of local industrial promotion agencies, when putting new machinery and equipment into operation, on average each month, the facility produces about 13 tons of dried banana products, equivalent to 52 tons of fresh banana raw materials, creating jobs for about 20 local workers, with an income of 4-5 million VND/person/month.
"The raw banana source is easy to find and available in the banana growing areas of Tran Van Thoi and U Minh. I carefully select it to produce the best dried banana products. My family is attached to the dried banana making profession, both maintaining and developing the traditional profession in a modern direction, and accompanying banana farmers, bringing value to banana trees and local products," Mr. Thanh added.
In Ca Mau, there is a tree with many health benefits, easy to grow wild, easy to plant, no pests, suitable for natural conditions, but rarely exploited in an industrial direction, that is the noni tree. Aiming to develop and perfect products according to 5-star OCOP standards, Mr. Khuu Van Chuong, Director of SK Noni Production and Trading Company Limited (Cong Nghiep Hamlet, Loi An Commune) decided to invest in adding new sterilization machines, refrigeration equipment and bag packaging machines. Thereby, implementing a modern closed production process, improving productivity, quality and diversifying product designs, expanding the market to export, meeting large orders; at the same time building the SK Noni juice brand with prestige and quality in the market.
Investing in building a factory, a closed, automatic production system of machinery and equipment, Mr. Chuong launched a new product "Packaged SK Noni Juice" to serve consumers.
With the support of the Provincial Industrial Promotion Center to implement the Project "Support for the application of machinery and equipment for the production of noni juice", by November 2024, the company completed the installation of machinery according to the approved project content including: 500-liter sterilizer, 500-liter quick-freezing equipment and automatic packaging machine. The total investment in machinery and factory is more than 2.1 billion VND. Accordingly, the company's self-investment cost, machinery, equipment and factory construction is 1.8 billion VND. Local industrial promotion sources support 210 million VND in machinery and equipment.
Mr. Chuong said: “According to current production orders, when putting machines and equipment into operation, the company produces about 1,200 liters of noni juice per month, equivalent to 6 tons of fresh noni raw materials. The advantage of the technology is that it ensures food hygiene and safety standards, is suitable for producing many different product lines, helps preserve products for a long time, and does not require preservatives. The closed, automatic, convenient system saves production time, produces large quantities, ensures labor safety, creates jobs for nearly 10 local workers, with an income of 5 million VND/person/month. The company also plans and links noni growing areas with farmers, an area of about 20 hectares to provide raw materials.”
SK Noni juice products not only serve domestically, but Mr. Chuong also strives to meet the criteria to expand the export market, striving to achieve 5-star OCOP certification.
In the period from 2012 to 2024, Tran Van Thoi district has 30 enterprises and units supported by the industrial promotion project with a total implementation cost of more than 25.3 billion VND, of which the industrial promotion support cost is more than 5 billion VND, the counterpart cost is 20.1 billion VND, with a total of nearly 400 workers.
Units, enterprises, and rural industrial establishments take advantage of their strengths and the support of local industrial promotion activities to support investment in applying advanced machinery and equipment to production, perfecting production processes, improving productivity, production efficiency, quality, and product value. Thereby, increasing competitiveness, contributing to maintaining and developing the industry of manufacturing and processing specialty and typical products of the province, aiming to expand export markets, solve output problems and increase the value of local raw materials, create jobs for workers, promote the development of rural industrial products, and develop the province's overall socio-economic situation./.
