Within the framework of the 2024 people's diplomacy program, the Hanoi City delegation led by Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city Nguyen Lan Huong met with Ms. Marcelle Torres Alves Okuno, who was proposed by the Embassy to be appointed Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Brazil.
At the meeting, Ms. Nguyen Lan Huong informed about the socio-economic situation of Hanoi Capital and hoped that the Honorary Consul would act as a bridge, promote the introduction and promotion of the country and people of Vietnam, including Hanoi Capital in Rio de Janeiro City in particular and Brazil in general. Thereby, deepening the friendship between the people of Brazil and Vietnam, at the same time, supporting the protection of Vietnamese citizens in Brazil, helping to connect the Vietnamese community in Brazil with the local government.
Ms. Marcelle Torres Alves Okuno expressed her honor to be proposed to be appointed as Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Brazil. At the same time, she discussed with the delegation some of her personal activities in recent times, especially after the Covid pandemic, to promote the friendly relations between Vietnam and Brazil.
Ms. Marcelle Torres Alves Okuno lives and works in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She is a Vietnam enthusiast and has extensive connections with politicians , diplomats and business people. She is working for AsiaColors, a private company that promotes public diplomacy activities between Asian countries in Brazil, aiming to strengthen friendly relations between peoples. At the same time, she is a member of the research team of the Public Diplomacy Council based in the US.
