On November 13 at the Government headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh received General Director of the Pathet Lao News Agency (KPL) Vannasin Simmavong on the occasion of his visit and work in Vietnam.
Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh congratulated the achievements that the Lao Party, State and people have attained in recent times, especially in the context of many difficulties and fluctuations in the regional and world situation.
Those results are a solid foundation and important driving force for Laos to continue to successfully implement socio -economic development goals in the new period.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his belief that, under the wise leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, the Lao people will continue to promote the achieved results and at the same time prepare well for the upcoming Party Congress.
The Party, State and people of Vietnam always strongly support Laos's reform policy and cause of national construction and defense; at the same time, attach importance to constantly consolidating and developing the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries. Vietnam always strives with Laos to promote bilateral cooperation mechanisms, especially in information exchange, policy consultation and coordination between ministries, branches and localities to bring practical results to both sides.

The Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated the results of cooperation in the field of information and communication between the two countries in recent times. The cooperation between Vietnamese and Lao news agencies and press not only contributes to spreading information about major events, helping the people of the two countries and international friends better understand the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos, but also has profound educational significance for the younger generation, helping them to perceive and appreciate more the tradition of solidarity and loyal attachment between the two peoples.
In recent years, the comprehensive cooperation between the two countries has continued to expand in many fields such as politics, defense, security, economy, trade, investment, education, training, culture, information, transportation, etc. In particular, economic and trade cooperation continues to grow positively, with two-way turnover in 2024 reaching 2.25 billion USD. Vietnam is currently among the leading investors in the neighboring country.
The Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated the role of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) in supporting KPL in terms of technology, human resource training, as well as in establishing and operating the information website serving the year Laos assumed the ASEAN Chairmanship. This is a vivid demonstration of the close solidarity and effective cooperation between the two national news agencies.
In the context of the rapidly changing and complex world and regional situation, the Fourth Industrial Revolution has a profound impact on all fields, the role of national news agencies and media has become more important than ever.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that VNA and KPL are not only information bridges between the two Parties, two States and peoples of the two countries, but also the core force in consolidating and promoting the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

The Deputy Prime Minister asked the two news agencies to continue promoting the achieved results, effectively implementing the contents of the new phase of the Cooperation Agreement; focusing on training and fostering human resources, improving quality, and innovating in the application of science and technology in journalism.
At the same time, the two sides stepped up the provision of official and timely information, contributing to enhancing mutual understanding, consolidating trust, protecting the Party's ideological foundation, and fighting against false and hostile information.
Expressing his gratitude to Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh for taking the time to receive the delegation, KPL General Director Vannasin Simmavong reported to the Deputy Prime Minister about the talks between KPL and VNA, as well as the delegation's activities in Vietnam; thanking the Party, State and people of Vietnam in general and VNA in particular for their support and assistance to the Lao Party, State and people and KPL in particular in the past time.
Regarding cooperation between the two news agencies, the Head of KPL delegation said that in recent times, the two sides have had regular, close and effective coordination. VNA has always provided KPL with valuable support in professional work, helping KPL grow and develop.
Mr. Vannasin Simmavong expressed his deep gratitude because it was thanks to the help of VNA that KPL was officially established on January 6, 1968 and has continued to grow until now.
This visit is an opportunity for both sides to review the results of cooperation over the past time, exchange directions for cooperation in the new period, thereby continuing to foster the special relationship between the two national news agencies as well as the great friendship between the two countries.
On behalf of the KPL delegation, Mr. Vannasin Simmavong thanked the Party, State and Government of Vietnam, especially the valuable support of Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh; affirmed that KPL will continue to make efforts and proactively coordinate closely with VNA, contributing to consolidating and developing the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, two States and peoples of Laos and Vietnam.
On the same morning, at the headquarters of the National News Center (No. 5 Ly Thuong Kiet, Cua Nam Ward, Hanoi), the VNA delegation led by General Director Vu Viet Trang and the KPL delegation led by General Director Vannasin Simmavong held talks, evaluated the results of cooperation in the 2022-2025 period and signed a professional cooperation agreement for the 2026-2030 period.

VNA General Director Vu Viet Trang expressed his pleasure to welcome the KPL delegation to visit and work in Hanoi exactly one year after the talks between the two news agencies in Vientiane (November 2024). The talks took place at a meaningful time when Vietnam and Laos are preparing for many important political events such as the Lao National Day (December 2, 2025), the National Party Congresses of the two countries in early 2026 and the elections of the National Assembly and People's Councils.
The General Director of VNA reviewed the results of bilateral cooperation on the basis of the Agreement for the 2022-2025 period.
Regarding information cooperation, the two agencies maintain daily news and photo supply; have access to and exploit information on each other's platforms. Thanks to the application of digital technology, exchanges are maintained continuously, even in sudden and unusual situations such as natural disasters and epidemics. The VNA's permanent office in Vientiane always receives active support from KPL.
In the field of press and publishing, KPL supports VNA in publishing 1,000 copies out of a total of 1,400 copies of Vietnam Pictorial each month in Laos, contributing to spreading this foreign publication widely to readers in many provinces and cities of the neighboring country. KPL also provides free daily Pathet Lao newspaper to VNA Resident Office in Vientiane.
The two agencies have coordinated to organize many joint photo exhibitions on the occasion of major political and diplomatic events such as the Day of Establishing Vietnam-Laos Diplomatic Relations, the Day of Signing the Vietnam-Laos Friendship and Cooperation Treaty, or on the occasion of State visits by high-ranking leaders of the two countries; especially the photo exhibition on the spirit of solidarity and cooperation between the two countries on the occasion of the State visit to Vientiane by President Luong Cuong in April 2025.
Regarding technical cooperation, VNA supports KPL in upgrading its website system, building a specialized information page on ASEAN, and sending experts to support KPL in handling cyber security incidents.
In addition, with the coordination of the VNA Resident Office in Vientiane, Unitel company continues to provide free internet connection to KPL from 2022 to present.
Regarding training and professional training, the two sides maintain exchanges and send reporters and technicians to attend training courses. Every year, VNA and KPL organize alternate visits and working sessions by leaders, and maintain regular contact through many channels.

In response to the need to improve Vietnamese language skills for its staff, VNA and KPL have worked with relevant agencies to send KPL staff to participate in training programs within the framework of intergovernmental cooperation between the two countries. In 2025, a KPL reporter participated in a professional training program in Vietnam with the support of VNA.
Regarding specific cooperation contents for the 2026-2030 period, VNA General Director Vu Viet Trang proposed the following cooperation contents: Continuing to exchange and share information on platforms; coordinating coverage of the National Party Congress, National Assembly elections, and major events of the two countries in 2026; supporting in verifying and handling false information. KPL continues to create conditions for VNA reporters to work in Laos.
The two sides continue to strengthen publishing cooperation, KPL continues to support the distribution of Vietnam Pictorial in Laos; coordinate in organizing photo exhibitions and displaying documents on important anniversaries and diplomatic events; promote training and exchange of professional skills on news, photos, archives, and techniques; support training in Vietnamese and Lao for reporters and editors on both sides; and include human resource training in the Intergovernmental Cooperation Program.
The two companies continue to support each other in terms of technology, upgrading infrastructure and professional equipment, and maintaining free internet lines provided by Unitel.
The two sides continue to exchange high-level delegations annually, organize visits, work and professional exchanges; agree to continue promoting the close coordination mechanism, maintain regular exchange channels between leaders and professional units, ensuring effective implementation of cooperation contents in the new period.
Speaking at the meeting, KPL Director General Vannasin Simmavong expressed his pleasure to visit and work with VNA, and expressed his deep gratitude to the VNA Director General for taking the time to receive the delegation. Since the two agencies signed the Cooperation Agreement in 2022, the relationship between KPL and VNA has always been maintained closely and effectively in many fields.
In particular, in the past year, the two sides have coordinated smoothly, achieving many practical results, contributing to strengthening solidarity, understanding and cooperation between the two national news agencies. These successes are an important foundation for the two sides to continue expanding cooperation in the coming period.
According to Mr. Simmavong, in the new period, the two agencies will focus on cooperation in the fields of training and fostering cadres and reporters, organizing professional training courses, enhancing digital transformation and applying information technology in journalism activities, in order to improve the quality of news and propaganda effectiveness.
At the end of the discussion, VNA General Director Vu Viet Trang and KPL General Director Vannasin Simmavong signed a professional cooperation agreement for the 2026-2030 period, marking a new development step in the relationship between the two national news agencies of Vietnam and Laos./.
