The publication Kim, Van, Kieu Story by Truong Vinh Ky (1875) was the first Tale of Kieu printed in the national language, marking a turning point in the process of nationalizing Vietnamese literature. From the way of marking, word usage to sentence structure, this printed version shows the primitive appearance of modern Vietnamese, reflecting the transition from Nom script to the national language.

By the time of Bui Khanh Dien's Kim Van Kieu (1924), Vietnamese had taken on a more flexible appearance, freed from its dependence on Chinese studies. With its prose annotations and additions of poetry and songs, this work clearly demonstrates the effort to enrich vocabulary and national spirit in the language.

The book series helps readers see different approaches to the Tale of Kieu.

Two scholars, Bui Ky and Tran Trong Kim, continued to bring Kieu textual studies to a standard level with The Tale of Kieu (The Tale of Kieu), based on the method of comparison and scientific examination, helping to reconstruct the most accurate system of Vietnamese vocabulary and phonetics.

Ho Dac Ham's publication, The Tale of Kieu, presents a different approach, pedagogizing language. He divides all 3,254 verses into 238 paragraphs, summarizing the content in a simple, easy-to-understand style, creating an effective and approachable method of learning Kieu.

At the same time, the revised Tale of Kieu by Nong Son Nguyen Can Mong focuses on correcting errors and different versions, affirming the spirit of preserving the standards of Vietnamese in textual research.

The set of 5 publications not only recreates the journey of Truyen Kieu over more than two centuries, but is also a “living research source” reflecting the process of development and standardization of the Vietnamese language. The publication of five editions of Truyen Kieu with respect and preservation of the original (including spelling, grammar and ancient words) by the Truth National Political Publishing House not only helps readers admire the beauty of a literary masterpiece but also allows readers and researchers to clearly see the mark of time and the development of the Vietnamese language through each period.
