To contribute more ideas to the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City, the People's Army Electronic Newspaper acknowledged the suggestions of Master, architect Pham Thanh Truyen - a typical face in the field of medical architecture in Vietnam, honored by the 2017 Congress of the International Union of Architects (UIA) as one of the "100 global architects".
Architect Pham Thanh Truyen said that the project "Symbol of recognition of the solidarity and unity of the people of the City to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic" has profound humanistic value, not only to commemorate the losses, but also to honor the spirit of resilience, sharing and solidarity of the people of Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country in the most difficult period.

In terms of architectural design, he said: This project should be approached in the direction of "architecture for people", that is, not focusing on massiveness or ostentatious form, but aiming at emotions, a quiet space, with spiritual therapy, where each person can stop, reflect and feel.
“I envision it could be an open memorial park, blending nature, light, water, sound, evoking “rebirth” and “healing”. These elements not only have aesthetic value, but also have a positive impact on human emotions and psychology,” architect Pham Thanh Truyen shared.
Artistically, he hopes the project will fully convey the message of “From loss to revival” - a journey that Ho Chi Minh City has gone through. The sculpture or central symbol should be general and evocative rather than descriptive. For example, the image of a pair of supporting hands, a bird flying, or light passing through water, all are symbols of hope, life and compassion.
This is not only an architectural work, but also a symbol of compassion, solidarity and the will to overcome difficulties of our country in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular in the "war without gunfire".
Therefore, in terms of culture, architect Pham Thanh Truyen proposed: The project should be placed in relation to the surrounding urban space, a place where people can visit, connect with cultural activities, so that it truly "lives" in urban life, not just a static statue. This is not only a memorial for a particular period, but also a symbol of a civilized, modern, and affectionate city.
Every memorial needs a “soul”, which is social memories, associated with major events. For Ho Chi Minh City, the Covid-19 pandemic is an unforgettable period in the minds of the people. Mr. Pham Thanh Truyen hopes that every citizen, when entering that memorial space, will feel gratitude, peace and faith in the future. That is the most lasting value that a memorial architectural work can bring.
