Strengthening multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Mozambique

On April 17, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , Minister Bui Thanh Son had an online meeting with Mozambique's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Veronica Macamo Dlhovo.

At the meeting, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son congratulated Mozambique on successfully organizing the 12th Congress of the Frelimo Party in September 2022; believing that under the leadership of the Frelimo Party, Mozambique will achieve many new and greater achievements in the cause of building and developing a prosperous and happy country. Minister Bui Thanh Son highly appreciated the positive developments in the multifaceted cooperation between the two countries in recent times; notably the online high-level talks between General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Chairman of the Frelimo Party, President of Mozambique Filipe Nyusi (June 2022) and the visit to Vietnam by President of the Mozambique National Assembly Esperanca Bias (June 2022). On this occasion, Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested that the two sides coordinate to implement many groups of solutions to promote bilateral relations such as: increasing the exchange of delegations at all levels; actively share experiences, coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums, especially in the context of Mozambique assuming the role of a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2023-2024 term... Regarding economic, trade and investment cooperation, Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested that the Government of Mozambique continue to create favorable conditions for Viettel 's operations in Mozambique, including participation in digital transformation projects of the Government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mozambique; at the same time, he affirmed that Vietnam is ready to export its strengths such as rice, food, consumer goods, textiles, footwear, etc. to Mozambique and hopes that the two sides will actively create conditions for businesses of the two countries to connect and learn about each other's markets. Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mozambique Veronica Macamo Dlhovo affirmed that Mozambique always cherishes the traditional friendship with Vietnam; expressed her joy at the first meeting with Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son.

The Minister affirmed the desire of the Government of Mozambique to strengthen multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam, especially in the fields of State management, education and training, telecommunications, striving to bring economic, trade, investment cooperation... commensurate with the good political relations between the two countries. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mozambique highly appreciated and affirmed that he would create favorable conditions for Viettel's investment activities in Mozambique; thanked the Government of Vietnam for supporting the successful implementation of agricultural projects in Mozambique. At the meeting, the two sides also agreed that although the bilateral relationship has had positive developments in recent times, it is not commensurate with the potential and wishes of the leaders of the two sides. In that spirit, the two sides affirmed to coordinate carefully in preparing for the 4th Meeting of the Vietnam - Mozambique Intergovernmental Committee held in Maputo, Mozambique in May 2023 because this is an important occasion to review and propose new directions, contributing to improving the effectiveness of cooperation between the two countries. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mozambique thanked the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the initiative to organize the online talks and looked forward to welcoming Minister Bui Thanh Son to Mozambique soon.
