Strengthening food safety management, preventing fake food

The Ministry of Health has just issued an official dispatch on strengthening food safety management and preventing fake food.

The dispatch sent to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities stated: In recent times, the situation of production and trading of fake food has become complicated, in which the production and trading of fake milk, fake MSG, fake cooking oil, fake health protection foods, etc. have emerged, causing confusion in public opinion because consumers have accidentally bought and used these products.

Implementing the direction of the Prime Minister in Official Dispatch No. 40/CD-TTg dated April 17, 2025 on handling the case of production and distribution of fake milk; The Ministry of Health - Standing Committee of the Central Inter-sectoral Steering Committee on Food Safety requests members of the Central Inter-sectoral Steering Committee on Food Safety and People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities, based on the assigned areas of food safety management, to strengthen market management, inspection and examination of food products on the market. Agencies need to focus on detecting ingredients of unknown origin, fake food, fake milk, fake health protection foods, poor quality foods, foods that have not yet carried out self-declaration procedures/registered declarations on the market in order to promptly detect, prevent and strictly handle violations.

Along with that, the Ministry of Health - Standing Committee of the Central Inter-sectoral Steering Committee on Food Safety requested to strengthen the review and handling according to the provisions of the law for violations of food advertising on the Internet or on other mass media. At the same time, increase information and propaganda of legal provisions on food safety to raise awareness of consumers in choosing, purchasing and using food products.

In particular, the Ministry of Health requires reviewing regulations on ensuring food safety for food products, especially for dairy products, nutritional products, and functional foods; proactively amending or proposing to competent authorities to amend current regulations when necessary to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of food safety management.
