According to the agreement, the Dak Lak Durian Association and WASI will coordinate four main contents: coordinating research, determining the origin, chemical residues and heavy metals in durian products, predicting active ingredients that may harm product quality in the future; developing a set of basic technical standards for the Dak Lak durian industry; identifying technical solution packages suitable for durian in different ecological regions; coordinating the organization of seminars, training, and technology transfer for sustainable durian production.
In this cooperation, the Dak Lak Durian Association is responsible for proposing or coordinating the proposal of urgent and necessary tasks in durian production in Dak Lak; research tasks and technology transfer between the two sides; taking primary responsibility for finding funding sources for cooperation activities and coordinating with WASI to carry out tasks at the field, at business organizations, and in coordination with durian farmers. "We identify these as important issues, the responsibility of the association in supporting farmers and businesses to orientate increasing the scientific and technical content in sustainable durian production", Mr. Vu Duc Con, Chairman of the Dak Lak Durian Association emphasized.
In fact, the work of monitoring and organizing the planning of the development of durian growing areas in the province has had the participation of organizations and management agencies. In particular, the role of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the Farmers' Association, the Cooperative Union, etc. is important in terms of policy issuance, planning structure and social mobilization organization. The Dak Lak Durian Association, with the position of a professional organization directly supporting farmers in cultivation, and enterprises building value-added chains for processing and distribution, needs to clearly define their responsibilities associated with specific cultivation and production processes of farmers.
Accordingly, how to increase the scientific knowledge content in the production and cultivation of durian trees is a very urgent issue. Farmers cannot maintain old methods and cultivation methods forever, but need to equip themselves with new knowledge and update knowledge about crop varieties and cultivation regimes towards large-scale specialized cultivation and large-scale harvests. A more important requirement is the safety of harvested products when many shipments and orders of durian are entangled with criteria for chemical residues, heavy metal contamination, and unsafe preservation methods.
Increasing the application of science and technology will strongly promote added values and export standards for agricultural products. (In the photo: Separating frozen durian segments for export of Ban Me Green Farm Joint Stock Company). Photo : Minh Thuan |
Mr. Phan Viet Ha, Deputy Director in charge of the Central Highlands Agricultural and Forestry Science Institute, shared that WASI is ready to meet the requirements of the four cooperation contents, especially in the work of accompanying farmers in production. Moreover, in the trend of developing production and promoting the export of official agricultural products, the requirements of science and safety technology are becoming more and more important. Cooperation in research and implementation of solutions to promote production from farmers is also a matter of WASI's responsibility.
The cooperation agreement of Dak Lak Durian Association can be said to be the first order of local professional organizations with specialized scientific research organizations.
This promises to open up many new opportunities for the quality and value of the province's goods production. When farmers are fully equipped with new scientific knowledge, farming techniques and precautions to handle the consequences of previous uncontrolled farming processes, they will ensure the quality of products brought to the market is safer and better. This meets the requirements and criteria for goods quality, allows for the stabilization of each specialized farming area, meets the requirements for export area codes, packaging, etc.
Businesses and processors will feel more secure with contracts with farmers, ensuring both the criteria of area and harvest output, and preventing potential risks from old farming methods. All of this will further promote the added value and export standards of agricultural products from the Central Highlands.
