Training on classification and treatment of domestic solid waste at source

On April 28, the Department of Agriculture and Environment held a training conference to provide technical guidance on classification, collection, and treatment of domestic solid waste at source for officers of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of districts, cities, and towns in the province.

Currently, the classification, collection and treatment of domestic solid waste at source in the province still faces many difficulties, especially in rural areas. Realizing the urgent need for environmental protection and classification of domestic solid waste at source, on December 30, 2024, the Provincial People's Committee issued Plan No. 5820/KH-UBND on classification of domestic solid waste at source in Phu Tho province by 2030, which identifies general and specific goals; key contents and tasks, and implementation solutions.

According to statistics, the amount of domestic waste generated in the province is up to nearly 341,000 tons/year, of which nearly 113,700 tons are in urban areas and nearly 228,000 tons are in rural areas. The amount of domestic waste has diverse quantities and compositions, of which organic waste accounts for about 70-75%; inorganic waste accounts for 25-30%.

However, the classification, collection and treatment of solid waste at source still faces many difficulties, especially in the classification and treatment stages.

Through the training conference, officers of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of localities will be guided on how to classify waste groups such as: waste that can be reused, recycled; hazardous waste and other domestic solid waste. In addition, officers attending the training conference will also learn more about the key tasks; solutions to implement the plan to classify domestic solid waste in the province according to the plan of the Provincial People's Committee... From there, advise and propose to the People's Committees of districts, cities and towns to develop plans and organize extensive propaganda work to the people so that the classification, collection and treatment of domestic solid waste at the source achieves the highest efficiency.
