Korean Navy ship visits Da Nang city

On May 4, the destroyer Kang Gam Chan of the Republic of Korea Navy, commanded by Colonel Kwon Yong Gu and 296 crew members, docked at Tien Sa port, beginning a friendship visit from May 4-6 in Da Nang city.

The welcoming ceremony took place at Tien Sa port with the participation of representatives of the Korean Consulate General in Da Nang; Korean Defense Attaché in Vietnam; officers and staff of the Consulate General; and representatives of functional agencies of Da Nang city, the Department of Foreign Affairs ( Ministry of National Defense ), the Department of Military Security; officers and soldiers of Navy Region 3 and Coast Guard Region 2.

During their stay in Da Nang , the ship’s command group will pay courtesy calls to the leaders of the city’s People’s Committee and the Naval Region 3 Command. The officers and crew will visit local historical and cultural sites and participate in exchange activities and joint training with the Vietnam Navy. This will contribute to enhancing the coordination between the two navies.

The visit of the Kang Gam Chan ship is considered a practical defense diplomacy activity, contributing to strengthening the friendship, cooperation and mutual understanding between the armies and peoples of the two countries. Thereby, continuing to promote the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea to develop more deeply and effectively.

The Roks Kang Gam Chan (DDH-979) is a modern destroyer of the Korean Navy, 150m long, 17.4m wide, 38.5m high, with a displacement of 5,500 tons and a crew of 344. The ship is equipped with an advanced maritime radar system, along with many modern weapons such as missiles, torpedoes...

Previously, in September 2017, the Roks Kang Gam Chan and Roks Hwacheon (AOE-59) also docked at Tien Sa port, making a friendly visit to Da Nang city, marking an important milestone in the history of naval exchanges between the two countries.
