Tay Ninh: 33 flood control boxes at risk of becoming unsafe in August

Tay Ninh province currently has 33 flood control areas at risk of becoming unsafe in August, with a total affected area of more than 1,800 hectares.

It is forecasted that the flood peak in August 2025 at Tan Chau station may reach 3.2m, equivalent to the average flood level of many years (TBNN) and much higher than the flood peak of the same period in 2024. The main flood peak in 2025 is expected to reach 3.7m, only 0.15m lower than TBNN and also higher than in 2024.

This early flood will pose many risks to the Summer-Autumn crop production areas, especially in low-elevation flood control areas and areas outside the areas in Tay Ninh, Dong Thap and An Giang provinces, located in the upper Mekong Delta.

The main flood situation in 2025 is forecast to be even higher, combined with high tides that can greatly affect flood control boxes, especially in the upper and middle regions of the Mekong Delta with low embankments.

Localities need to closely monitor forecasts and proactively deploy timely response plans. Monitoring information from forecasting agencies such as the MRC, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting and local Hydro-Meteorological Stations is very important to have appropriate response plans.

In Tay Ninh province, flood water levels in August 2025 are forecast to range from 1.32m to 2.3m at Tan Hung, Vinh Hung, Moc Hoa and Tuyen Nhon stations, higher than the average level.

The main flood peak of the 2025 crop, expected in late September and early October, may continue to rise, especially at Tan Hung and Moc Hoa stations, with water levels possibly reaching 2.95m and 2.25m.

The entire Tay Ninh province ( Dong Thap Muoi area) currently has 33 flood control enclosures, which are at risk of being unsafe in August, with a total affected area of more than 1,800 hectares. In particular, during the main flood season, a large enclosure with an area of more than 4,000 hectares is also in the area at risk of being affected when floods combine with high tides.

By early August, the entire Tay Ninh province still had more than 140,000 hectares of summer-autumn rice unharvested, while the autumn-winter crop had been sown on 33,500 hectares. The authorities advised people to closely monitor the development of floods and rains, proactively reinforce dykes, harvest rice at the right time and not sow in areas where safety is not guaranteed./.
