Protests against Tesla CEO Elon Musk are spreading across the United States. Hundreds of "Tesla Takedown" protests have taken place at Tesla dealerships, including one in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York on March 29.

The backlash stems from Musk's appointment as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under President Donald Trump, with many accusing Musk of drastically cutting the federal workforce.

At the Brooklyn protest, 11-year-old Ruby Jennino and her parents joined in and expressed their concerns about the Trump administration. " People who are different, even just a little bit, are being targeted and tried to be destroyed by the Trump administration. This is completely wrong. So Elon Musk should resign from his role in the Trump administration, because he is doing bad things.

I don’t understand why people still support him. Plus, his products aren’t good. The Cybertruck, for example, is expensive, you have to repaint it yourself, and the design is ugly. It’s a scam, ” said 11-year-old Ruby Jennino.

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by billionaire Elon Musk, has overseen the cutting of more than 100,000 jobs in the federal civilian workforce. It has also pushed to freeze foreign aid and cancel thousands of programs and contracts.

Alex, who did not give his last name, said he started participating in anti-Tesla protests as soon as DOGE started going live. “ I hope America will return to being a real democracy. I also hope Elon Musk will give up his unelected role in running the country. I hope the federal government agencies will be more active, and we will have a free country for everyone again ,” he said.

Outside the US, some Canadians have also announced a boycott of US goods to protest the Trump administration's tax hikes. However, despite the wave of protests, Tesla electric car sales this month still hit a record high.

Still, Tesla shares have fallen by nearly half from their peak in January, after surging following Mr Trump's election.
