The activity is part of the "Sharing Tet" program jointly implemented by the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union and Tuoi Tre newspaper, expected to give 1,000 gifts to children with cancer at 10 hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi , Da Nang and Hue with a total cost of 800 million VND.
Happiness overcomes the pain of illness
Receiving the gift package (VND300,000) and the lucky money envelope (VND500,000), Ms. Tran Thi Minh Tam (34 years old) turned to remind her daughter to say thank you. Huyen Trang (6 years old), Ms. Tam's youngest daughter, has been suffering from acute leukemia for nearly 5 months now and is being treated at the City Children's Hospital.
That was also the time when mother and daughter left their hometown of Nha Trang ( Khanh Hoa ) for Ho Chi Minh City to get medicine and then hurriedly returned. In the countryside, Trang's father worked hard to find more jobs to earn money to treat his youngest child and raise his eldest daughter who was living with her grandmother.
Trang's skin was pale and her hair had fallen out, but she still smiled brightly as she accompanied her mother to receive the gift, clutching the lucky money envelope tightly. Tam thanked the benefactors of Tuoi Tre newspaper for bringing joy to her children as Tet approached.
Sitting with her mother in the waiting room at the Blood Transfusion - Hematology Hospital, with an IV needle still in her hand, Dang Nhu Huyen Ngoc said she did not feel tired, but was very happy because she received Tet gifts and lucky money envelopes.
Ngoc boasted that she only needed to take a little more medicine and she could stay in the countryside without having to go to the city anymore, because the doctor said her condition had improved well, waiting for a regular check-up.
"I'm so happy, thank you for coming to give us gifts", the 13-year-old girl from Lai Vung district ( Dong Thap ) happily said.

Hope to give more support to children with cancer
Handing out gifts and lucky money envelopes to the children, Miss Universe Vietnam 2023 Bui Quynh Hoa said she had participated in a number of charity programs, but this was the first time she had accompanied Tuoi Tre newspaper.
"This is a very meaningful program to share gifts and affection from philanthropists with the children. Every time I have the opportunity to know about the program, I always try to accompany it," Miss Quynh Hoa shared.

Meanwhile, Miss Universe Vietnam 2024 first runner-up Nguyen Quynh Anh said she felt heartbroken when young patients had to fight serious illnesses and endure pain.
Quynh Anh said it was very difficult for her to overcome, let alone these children. It was too much pain to endure. Quynh Hoa and Quynh Anh sympathized and wanted to share more not only with the children, but also with the families of children undergoing cancer treatment.
"I hope I can help more children. Working with Tuoi Tre newspaper, I think I have the opportunity to get closer to disadvantaged children with cancer. I hope I can give them some spiritual support and ease their pain," runner-up Quynh Anh expressed.
In Ho Chi Minh City, the program "Thuy's Dream" will give 480 Tet gifts to pediatric cancer patients at the following hospitals: Blood Transfusion - Hematology, City Children's Hospital, Children's Hospital 2 and Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital. The total value is 384 million VND, including gifts (300,000 VND) and lucky money envelopes (500,000 VND).
Previously, after the program announcement ceremony on January 10, the first 35 gifts were handed to pediatric cancer patients at Children's Hospital 2 and Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital. The children also had the opportunity to visit Ho Chi Minh City by double-decker bus and experience riding Metro Line 1.
