Thailand launches new consumer support program
In order to boost consumer spending, the "Co-pay" program is being prepared by Thai authorities to be launched in the fourth quarter of this year with the expectation of increasing the purchasing power of more than 33 million people.
According to the Thai Small and Medium Enterprises Federation, the program is expected to inject more than $6 billion into the Thai economy , in two or three cycles, and be distributed to consumer units such as convenience stores and restaurants, thereby helping to cut shopping costs for Thai consumers. Businesses also expect the "Co-pay" program to help redistribute income to local communities, vulnerable groups and small and medium enterprises in many sectors, helping to boost GDP growth in the later part of the year.
Mr. Saengchai Teerakulwanich, President of the Thai Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises, emphasized that the success of the Government 's policies to support small and medium enterprises depends on combining them with tax system reforms and complementary measures.
He also suggested that the Government should design continuous measures, such as “co-payment” for social security programs, to reduce the cost of living for low-income workers, and support localization in government procurement. He believes that the Government’s strict implementation of these policies will effectively meet the needs of both the people and small and medium enterprises in Thailand.
