Land of heroes
From the center of Da Bac commune, we traveled a winding road of more than 40km along the mountainside to reach Quy Duc commune - where Muong Diem Revolutionary Base is located. This road was concreted and put into use nearly two years ago, making it much easier for people here to trade goods and buy agricultural products. The traffic that paved the way has contributed significantly to the changes and improvements in the lives of people in the revolutionary war zone.
Generations of Veterans and Youth Union members of Quy Duc commune review the glorious history of Muong Diem Revolutionary Base
According to historical documents, the Muong Diem revolutionary base was established in April 1945. Comrade Phan Lang was assigned to directly build the Muong Diem revolutionary base. With the help of the people in the area, comrade Phan Lang and the revolutionary cadres of the Provincial Party Committee opened military training and political classes for members of the self-defense teams. The revolutionary forces of the base area grew stronger and stronger with the support and wholehearted help of the people, contributing significantly to the victory of the uprising to seize power in August 1945 in Cho Bo district, Suoi Rut, Pho Vang (former Hoa Binh province) and Moc Chau (Son La). Under the command of Mr. Dinh Cong Doc, the Muong Diem revolutionary forces developed into a local army battalion, together with the people, stepping up guerrilla warfare, contributing to smashing the plot to establish an "autonomous Muong land" of the French colonialists.
Continuing the tradition and feats of the resistance war against France, during the resistance war against the US, with the spirit of unity and determination to defeat the US, once again the militia of the Muong Diem revolutionary base made history. Recounting the glorious feats of the local army and people during the years of resistance war against the US, veteran Luong Van Xuoi, Bay hamlet, Quy Duc commune said: In the years 1965 - 1967, enemy aircraft divided into many groups to drop bombs on Da Bac district. At that time, the US repeatedly sent reconnaissance aircraft to this area to scout, preparing to attack the vital routes. At 13:24 on April 29, 1966, 3 RF-101C reconnaissance aircraft from Moc Chau flew into Da Bac airspace to scout. Detecting the aircraft signal, the commune militia quickly deployed an ambush. In the difficult terrain, we took advantage of the mountain slopes and forest canopy as hiding places. When the plane came into range, we opened fire. After several rounds, the plane was hit and crashed into the mountainside. The plane caught fire, and the pilot was captured by the militia and people.
During the fierce war, many children of Quy Duc heroically sacrificed their lives for national independence. With their indomitable fighting spirit and meaningful and valuable contributions to the revolution, Trung Thanh commune (now Quy Duc commune) was awarded the noble title “Hero of the People’s Armed Forces” by the State.
Efforts to build a new life
Continuing the tradition of the previous generation, promoting the revolutionary spirit in the renovation period, the Party Committee and People of Quy Duc commune today have strived to overcome difficulties, building their homeland to develop more and more.
With agriculture as the mainstay, the commune actively applies scientific and technical advances to production, transforms the structure of crops and livestock, and introduces high-yield, high-quality crop varieties into cultivation. In the commune, areas for growing chayote and plum have been formed with an area of about 5 hectares; the total herd of livestock and poultry is nearly 80 thousand. The annual rice growing area is maintained at more than 420 hectares.
With the support of the State budget and socialization, the traffic infrastructure system of communes, villages, alleys, fields, production areas... has been invested in, renovated, upgraded and solidified with a total length of more than 80km, improving conditions for travel and trade of goods. The irrigation system and canals have been solidified, ensuring water sources for production with an active irrigation area of over 70% compared to the total cultivated area.
Medical stations in the commune have received investment and construction attention, contributing to improving people's health care.
The rate of households using the national grid electricity reached 99%, 100% of hamlets covered by 4G, over 90% of households had Internet. The rate of cultural families and cultural residential areas was high; cultural and sports facilities were gradually invested and upgraded; 100% of primary school children attended 2 sessions/day, the health insurance coverage rate reached 100% of the population. Health care, education and environmental work were significantly improved, contributing to improving the quality of life of the people.
Comrade Duong Thi Thuy, Deputy Secretary of the Quy Duc Commune Party Committee, said: As a commune in a particularly difficult area, the people of Quy Duc commune always receive attention and investment from authorities at all levels, departments and branches. Implementing the program to support housing for the poor, eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the period of 2021 - 2025, the whole commune has 772 households supported, of which 573 households built new houses and 199 households repaired. The Party Committee and people of Quy Duc commune have promoted the tradition of solidarity, strived to overcome difficulties and achieved many important results in all fields. After the merger, the commune is focusing on promoting its potential and advantages, gradually bringing Quy Duc commune to comprehensive and sustainable development.
