The delegation of Ho Chi Minh City officials is listening to an introduction about the operating model of Rungis International Market.

Rungis International Market (part of the Semmaris Group) is the world's largest fresh food wholesale market. The market covers an area of 234 hectares, has a turnover of 10 billion EUR/year, has more than 1,200 operating businesses and employs 15,000 people daily.

The market supplies fresh food to the Paris region (12 million people) and surrounding areas. In addition to supplying the domestic market, the market also participates in import and export activities. The market's management of traceability of goods regarding food safety and hygiene and strict production and supply processes ensures food safety and creates convenience for wholesalers. Many countries in the world have been cooperating with Semmaris Group to import the market's management model.

Sharing with Mr. Bertrand Ambroise, Director of External Relations of Semmaris Group, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen informed that Ho Chi Minh City currently has 3 wholesale markets for agricultural products and food (Binh Dien, Hoc Mon, Thu Duc) located at the gateways, connecting major production areas of the Southern region of Vietnam.

In the orientation of building Ho Chi Minh City into a service center of the country, the city is focusing on planning to develop a system of large-scale service areas for shopping, entertainment, cuisine and upgrading and expanding these 3 wholesale markets to modernity.

Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen said that the operation of Rungis International Market is a model and method that Ho Chi Minh City needs to learn from to organize the activities of the city's wholesale markets, in order to meet the increasingly high consumption demands of people in the city and the Ho Chi Minh City region.

Currently, Rungis Market Operating Company has coordinated activities with Binh Dien Wholesale Market in consulting on phase 2 expansion.

According to the Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, from the valuable experiences in the organization and operation of Rungis market, it is hoped that this will be an opportunity to apply good experiences in operations in Ho Chi Minh City.
