Thanh Hoa - Seongnam: Towards a sustainable future

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - Right after the meeting and business connection conference between Seongnam City (Korea) and Thanh Hoa Province, in the afternoon of the same day (June 20), at the headquarters of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, the talk show and signing ceremony of the Agreement to strengthen friendly cooperation between Thanh Hoa Province and Seongnam City (Korea) took place solemnly, warmly, opening a period of extensive, substantive and comprehensive cooperation between the two localities.

Attending the program, on the side of Thanh Hoa province, there were comrade Nguyen Van Thi, member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; comrade Nguyen Quang Hai, member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; together with representatives of relevant departments, branches, units, and the Provincial Business Association.

On the side of Seongnam City, there were Mr. Shin Sang Jin, Mayor of the city; Mr. An Kwang Lim, Vice Chairman of the City Council, and nearly 20 members of the delegation including congressmen, government officials and representatives of the Seongnam City Industrial Promotion Agency.

Strengthening the foundation of friendly cooperation

Speaking at the welcoming ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Thi, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, expressed his honor to welcome the high-ranking delegation of Seongnam City to visit and work in Thanh Hoa.

“Vietnam-Korea relations are at their best stage of development, which is a solid foundation for localities like Thanh Hoa and Seongnam to strengthen cooperation in many fields,” the Standing Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee affirmed.

He emphasized: After the two countries officially upgraded their relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2022, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam - Korea diplomatic relations, the relationship between the two countries has increasingly developed, effectively and substantially. These good results are a reliable foundation for Vietnam - Korea in general, and the two localities of Thanh Hoa - Seongnam in particular, to continue to build and strengthen the increasingly deep and strong cooperative relationship.

The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also gave an overview of the development potential of the province - a locality that converges all three ecological regions, has a synchronous infrastructure system with an airport, deep-water seaport, North-South expressway, and the Nghi Son Economic Zone that is developing strongly. With special policies prioritized by the Central Government, Thanh Hoa is an attractive destination for foreign investors, including South Korea.

“With many potentials and advantages in terms of geographical location, land, transport infrastructure, abundant labor resources, along with preferential mechanisms and policies, Thanh Hoa is considered an attractive destination for foreign investors, including Korean investors. I hope that, after today's visit to Thanh Hoa province, many Korean investors in general and Seongnam City in particular will continue to come to learn and research investment in Thanh Hoa province,”

In the context that Thanh Hoa is actively arranging the government apparatus and promoting reforms, the Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee suggested that Seongnam City continue to pay attention and coordinate with Thanh Hoa Province in exchanging delegations at all levels, participating in international events, promoting people-to-people exchanges; sharing experiences in building e-government, smart cities, digital transformation - areas in which Seongnam has many strengths. At the same time, introducing Korean businesses and investors to explore cooperation opportunities in Thanh Hoa.

In response, Mr. Shin Sang Jin, Mayor of Seongnam City, said: "I am very pleased to return to Thanh Hoa - the locality where we established friendly cooperative relations since 2013. After more than 10 years, the relationship between Seongnam and Thanh Hoa has developed effectively and strongly in many fields."

The mayor emphasized: Seongnam is a leading city in Korea in developing high-tech industries such as smart cities, artificial intelligence, smart agriculture, smart transportation and healthcare. With a high density of businesses and a strong innovation ecosystem, Seongnam is always ready to share experience, technology and resources with Thanh Hoa - a locality highly appreciated for its development potential, strategic geographical location and quality workforce.

Although only 14 businesses participated in this business trip, in the future, we will organize more survey and connection delegations, contributing to bringing the Korean investment wave closer to Thanh Hoa.

In addition to the economic field, Mr. Shin Sang Jin said that Seongnam especially hopes that the two sides will expand cooperation in culture, education, youth and people-to-people exchanges. Strong human connections will create a long-term foundation for the friendly relationship between Seongnam City and Thanh Hoa Province.

Towards practical, effective and long-term cooperation

At the meeting between leaders of the two localities, delegates discussed solutions to promote friendly cooperation.

The two sides agreed to continue expanding cooperation areas, focusing on sharing experiences in building e-government and smart cities; connecting businesses, promoting investment in high-tech, healthcare and education sectors; cooperating in tourism, organizing events to promote images, enhancing people-to-people exchanges; implementing student and management staff exchange programs.

In particular, Thanh Hoa province proposed that Seongnam city support experts and technology in the fields of innovation, digital transformation and training of high-quality human resources to adapt to the new development context.

Immediately after the talks, witnessed by the leaders of the two delegations and delegates, Comrade Nguyen Van Thi, Permanent Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee and Mr. Shin Sang Jin, Mayor of Seongnam City, signed an Agreement to strengthen friendly cooperation between the two localities.

The agreement clearly states the principles of equality and mutual benefit, and specifies the areas of cooperation in economics, culture, tourism, education, science and technology, and youth and people-to-people exchanges.

The two sides also agreed that the focal agencies in charge are the Thanh Hoa Department of Foreign Affairs and the Seongnam City General Office to ensure effective implementation of annual cooperation content.
