Lighting up the border

These days, people in villages along National Highway 4G of the two border communes of Chieng Khuong and Muong Sai, Song Ma district, are happy when the solar lighting system has just been inaugurated and put into use, meeting the needs of convenient travel, ensuring security, order, traffic safety, contributing to changing the face of the new countryside.

On the 4G national highway, more than 50 km long, from Muong Sai commune to Song Ma town, the solar lighting system lights up every night, changing the lives of the residential area. Ms. Tong Thi Yen, Tien Chung village, excitedly said: My family has been in the grocery business for a long time, since the road was lit, my family has sold more goods than before; people's travel is convenient and security and order are maintained.

Implementing the model "Village Light", from 2022, Chieng Khuong commune has selected 5 villages: Hung Ha, Tan Lap, Thong Nhat, Den, Mo to build the model "Village Light", with 4 solar bulbs/village, mainly on the main road. Mass organizations mobilize union members to install electric poles and assemble equipment to minimize costs. Up to now, in addition to the 4G national highway invested by the district, Chieng Khuong commune has mobilized people in 21/21 villages to install lighting, with more than 400 solar bulbs.

Mr. Lo Van Loan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Chieng Khuong, said: The district has just handed over the lighting system project along National Highway 4G, with 162 lighting points. In which, the villages: Chieng Khuong, Lien Hong, Mo, Puc benefited. The commune has directed the villages to properly manage and monitor damaged bulbs, report to the People's Committee of the commune to promptly repair or replace new bulbs.

In the border commune of Muong Cai, where economic conditions are still difficult, the commune has mobilized sponsorship from units: Son La Electricity Company, the Provincial Procuracy, Muong Cai Border Guard Station and socialized contributions from the people. Up to now, the whole commune has installed 196 lighting lamps in many villages. It is expected that in 2025, 50 more solar bulbs will be installed.

Lieutenant Colonel Lo Van Tuan, Political Commissar of Muong Cai Border Guard Station, Son La Border Guard Command, said: Since installing the solar lighting system, it has helped officers and soldiers reduce difficulties and hardships in border patrol activities, border management, fighting against illegal entry and exit, smuggling across the border and other types of crimes in the area.

National Highway 4G in Muong Sai Commune, Song Ma District is equipped with an electric lighting system.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hiep, Head of the Economic - Infrastructure Department of Song Ma district, said: From 2023 to now, the district has constructed a solar lighting system with a length of nearly 40 km, with an implementation cost of more than 18 billion VND, from the district budget. In addition, the district also mobilized social resources to install lighting systems on commune and village roads. In 2024, households and groups of households installed 950 solar lights.

Up to now, the whole district has over 85 km of rural roads in the villages equipped with lighting systems, convenient for people to travel at night, minimizing traffic accidents, and ensuring security and order. According to the assessment, by the end of 2024, the rate of households using safe national electricity regularly from sources in Song Ma district will reach 100%; the rate of households with grid electricity will reach over 99%, contributing to the completion of the criteria for building new rural areas in the area.
