
Trucks over 7.5 tons and passenger vans over 29 seats are prohibited from using lane 1 on the two southern expressways.
The above two decisions were issued based on the opinions of the Traffic Police Department and Road Management Area IV on adjusting the traffic organization plan, lane division, and speed regulations on each lane for the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong and Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressways.
Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway bans trucks over 7.5 tons from circulating
According to the decision of the Department of Roads, the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway consists of 4 lanes and 2 emergency lanes. The lanes are designated for the following types of vehicles:
- Lane 1 (lane close to the median strip): Trucks with a total weight of over 7.5 tons are prohibited from circulating, including: general trucks (except single-cabin pickup trucks, double-cabin pickup trucks - pickup trucks, VAN trucks); specialized trucks (except cash transport vehicles); specialized vehicles; tractors; trailers; passenger cars with over 29 seats.
Vehicles allowed to travel on lane 1 must comply with the maximum speed limit of 100km/h and the minimum speed limit of 80km/h (minimum speed increased from 60 to 80km/h).
- Lane 2 (lane next to the emergency lane): Regardless of vehicle type (all vehicles allowed to enter the highway are allowed to drive on this lane), vehicles running on lane 2 must comply with the maximum speed limit of 100km/h, minimum speed of 60km/h (maintain the minimum speed).
Phan Thiet-Dau Giay Expressway maximum speed 120km/h
For the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway, the decision of the Vietnam Road Administration added the content: "Prohibiting trucks with a total weight of over 7,500 kg and passenger cars with over 29 seats from circulating on lane 1 (lane close to the median strip) in the traffic organization plan.
Lanes are designated for the following types of vehicles:
- Lane 1: Prohibits trucks with a total weight of over 7,500 kg from circulating (including: general trucks (except single-cabin pickup trucks, double-cabin pickup trucks, and van trucks); specialized trucks (except cash transport vehicles); specialized vehicles; tractors, semi-trailers; trailers) and passenger cars with over 29 seats.
- Lane 2: No distinction by vehicle type.
Vehicles are allowed to travel on lane 1 (lane next to the median strip), complying with the maximum speed of 120km/h, minimum speed of 80km/h; Lane 2 (lane next to the emergency lane), complying with the maximum speed of 120km/h, minimum speed of 60km/h. Vehicles are not allowed to exceed the maximum speed and below the minimum speed indicated on the signs and painted on the road surface.
For the two expressways above, the Department of Roads also stipulates that the above vehicles are traveling on lane 2 (lane next to the emergency lane) if they need to overtake another vehicle going in the same direction, they are allowed to switch to lane 1 (lane next to the median strip) to overtake, then switch back to lane 2 to continue traveling.
When changing lanes, vehicles must maintain a safe distance from the vehicles in front and behind. Drivers on the highway must signal in advance when changing lanes and must ensure safety. Drivers are responsible for their lane changing and overtaking actions when causing traffic accidents.
According to the decision of the Vietnam Road Administration, the implementation period of the above pilot traffic organization plan is 1 month from October 27.
Before 10 days of the expiration date of the pilot traffic organization plan, Road Management Area IV is responsible for completing the traffic organization plan to replace the above pilot traffic organization plan.
According to the Vietnam Road Administration, in addition to the above regulations, Road Management Area IV is responsible for inspecting and supervising the requirements for proper implementation of traffic organization plans; adjusting if necessary to ensure traffic order and safety, but not including increasing operating speed on the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway and Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway.
