Da Nang proactively deploys '4 on-site' measures to respond to floods

(Chinhphu.vn) - On the afternoon of October 28, the People's Committee of Da Nang City held a meeting to deploy response work to floods and landslides in the city.

At the meeting, Director of the Department of Construction Nguyen Ha Nam informed that the initial estimate is that the flood has caused damage to the construction industry of about 10 billion VND. The Department proposed to declare a natural disaster emergency for a number of traffic infrastructure projects and asked the City's Disaster Prevention Command to provide funding for units to carry out repair work, ensure traffic, and maintain routes.

Emphasizing at the meeting, Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Pham Duc An acknowledged and highly appreciated the coordination and initiative between the military forces, police and communes and wards, all of whom were very proactive in "4 on-the-spot" measures. Many communes, when there were landslides, immediately deployed to level the national highway to clear the route, especially proactively evacuating people early, promptly reporting to the City to grasp as well as promptly propose to arrange local support vehicles.

The city also assigned the Department of Construction to deploy and coordinate forces ready to participate in clearing routes and coordinating on congested national and provincial highways. If any landslide volume exceeds the local capacity, the Department of Construction must be notified for handling.

Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Tran Nam Hung said that as soon as there was heavy rain, all prevention work was deployed drastically and effectively in the spirit of "4 on-the-spot". All concentrated evacuation points were fully prepared with food by the local authorities, and no area had people going hungry or lacking food. Mechanical forces, workers, and military forces were ready to join forces to overcome the situation, but safety must also be ensured in the complicated flood situation.

Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Pham Duc An requested localities to continue to be proactive in supporting people in responding to floods and be ready to carry out recovery work when the water recedes, helping people stabilize soon. At the same time, it is necessary to have specific calculations and assessments to have a long-term plan to minimize damage caused by floods.

On the same day, City Party Secretary Le Ngoc Quang inspected the work of flood and coastal erosion prevention and control in Hoi An Tay, Hoi An Dong and Hoi An wards.

At the destinations, the City Party Secretary and the working delegation directly grasped the flood situation, inspected the evacuation work, supported tourists and acknowledged the proactive spirit of local authorities in responding to floods. The City Party Secretary praised the timeliness and responsibility of the forces in implementing the "4 on-the-spot" motto, encouraging people to quickly overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives.

The Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee also inspected the serious landslide at the coast of Tan Thanh block (Hoi An Tay ward) and the progress of the coastal erosion prevention project in Hoi An Dong ward. Due to the impact of storm No. 12, this area was hit by waves 25-30m inland, extending more than 100m, damaging many embankments, threatening residential areas and tourist facilities. The authorities have urgently reinforced the embankment to prevent the landslide from spreading.

Secretary of the City Party Committee Le Ngoc Quang emphasized the spirit of being proactive, timely, and not subjective in responding to natural disasters, putting the safety of people's lives and property and tourists first, ensuring stable production and daily life, contributing to maintaining security, order, and sustainable development of coastal areas.
