Candidates "shocked" with math exam questions for 10th grade high school

(Dan Tri) - After finishing the final exam in the 10th grade entrance exam, many candidates in Nghe An said that this year's math test was too difficult, with new elements making it difficult to get a high score.

On June 4, more than 39,000 candidates in Nghe An province completed the math exam, concluding the 10th grade high school entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year. Records at many testing sites showed that many candidates left the exam room with anxiety, assessing the exam as difficult and difficult to achieve high scores.

Nguyen Phuong Ha Na, a student at Nguyen Truong To Secondary School, registered to take the exam at Huynh Thuc Khang High School (Vinh City), shared: “This year’s math test was much more difficult than last year’s, especially the last part. I did about 60%, hoping to still have enough points to pass my first choice.”

Similarly, candidate Nguyen Van Quan, Le Loi Secondary School (Vinh City), said: "The test was too difficult, many questions required me to think for a long time before I could figure out how to answer. I didn't do very well, I probably only got 5-6 points."

According to the Nghe An Departmentof Education and Training, this year's math exam has some adjustments in line with the 2018 General Education Program. There are 3 questions exploiting new knowledge, including content related to probability - statistics and applying math to solve practical situations.

This is the first time that the 10th grade exam in Nghe An has included these elements in the official exam. Previously, the Department of Education and Training had published a sample exam for students to familiarize themselves with. However, many students still had difficulty applying it within the limited time of the exam.

According to the Nghe An Department of Education and Training, the province organized 71 testing sites with 39,133 candidates registered to take the exam. During the math exam, 42 candidates were absent, and 1 candidate violated the regulations by bringing a cell phone into the testing area (at the Examination Council of Phan Thuc Truc High School).

In addition, the exam was assessed to be safe and serious, with no major incidents occurring. The organization, supervision and security were all ensured in accordance with regulations.
