On May 13, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital informed that it had just received a case of patient PTT (14 years old, Thai Binh ) in emergency condition after a mini gas tank explosion accident at home. The patient was hospitalized with severe injuries to his left hand, and injuries to his eyes and jaw.
Through examination, the patient's soft tissue from the wrist to the left hand was crushed and bleeding profusely. In addition, the right eye had a torn cornea and upper eyelid, serious damage that threatened vision, along with soft tissue injuries in the maxillofacial area.
Dr. Nguyen Moc Son, Department of Upper Extremity Surgery and Sports Medicine, said that as soon as the patient was admitted, the hospital activated an emergency interdisciplinary consultation process to assess the extent of the injury and intervene promptly, in order to minimize the risk of complications and preserve the patient's vital functions.
Faced with severe injuries, doctors decided to amputate the lower third of the forearm to completely remove the crushed tissue, prevent necrosis and infection from spreading, and create the best conditions for the patient's future recovery.
At the same time, experts from Viet Duc Friendship Hospital coordinated with experts from the Central Eye Hospital to perform corneal suture surgery and remove the foreign object in the eye for the child patient. Currently, T. has passed the critical stage and continues to receive post-operative care, rehabilitation exercises, and stabilizes his health after the injury.
During the holidays, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital often receives many cases of serious injuries due to mini gas tank explosions, especially when used during cooking.
Experts recommend that people absolutely do not use gas cylinders in closed rooms or rooms without adequate ventilation, and carefully check the origin. They should not use old, poor quality gas cylinders or gas valve leaks.
Families need to closely monitor when young children come into contact with cooking equipment to prevent tragic accidents. When an accident occurs, the victim must be taken immediately to the nearest specialized medical facility for timely emergency care, ensuring life and health safety.
