'The Boy and the Heron' beats American film to win Best Animated Feature

The first "sweet fruits" have come to The Boy and the Heron , the longest-running film of Hayao Miyazaki (now 82 years old). At the 89th awards of the New York Film Critics Circle, the film surpassed Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, Justin K. Thompson), Robot Dreams (directed by Pablo Berger), Elemental (directed by Peter Sohn ) and its "compatriot" the animated film Suzume (directed by Makoto Shinkai) to win.

The animated film The Boy and the Heron has just helped Studio Ghibli win another prestigious award outside the Japanese market.

The movie The Boy and the Heron is currently receiving a score of up to 97% on Rotten Tomatoes (certified "fresh"), and 81% of the general audience rated the movie positively. GKIDS (a North American animation distributor) has scheduled the movie for release on December 8.

The film The Boy and the Heron is set in post-war Japan, telling the colorful journey in the half-real, half-fiction world of a boy named Mahito and a talking heron. The work was released more than a decade after Hayao Miyazaki "disappeared" from the screen. Currently, almost all major foreign newspapers have given the film a series of "winged" compliments.

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September this year, marking the first time in the history of the festival that an animated film was chosen to open the festival.
