Football players are sometimes superstitious, often clinging to habits they believe bring good luck. As former Chelsea captain John Terry once admitted to having a series of pre-match rituals, from sitting in one seat in the car to listening to Usher's albums on repeat.

Furthermore, England legend Gary Lineker even changed his shirt mid-match if he didn't score in the first half. But all of that seems insignificant compared to Ederson's exceptional case.

Manchester City's number one goalkeeper left fans stunned when he revealed a rather bizarre habit: he wore only one pair of underwear throughout his eight years of playing, and he still uses that same pair regularly to this day.

In a conversation with Shay Given on BBC 's Football Focus programme, Ederson revealed: "My only superstition is that I play every game in the same underwear. Eight years now, and it's still the same underwear."

Given was stunned when he heard this: "No way. It must be completely ruined!" After this remark from the former Irish goalkeeper, both of them burst out laughing.

If Ederson's claim is true, then since August 12, 2017 (his Man City debut against Brighton), the Brazilian goalkeeper has played 363 consecutive matches wearing the same pair of underwear. "Just hearing about it is horrifying," wrote Metro .

The online reactions were equally humorous, with comments such as: "Maybe that's why he's making the whole stadium smell," "His pants must be full of holes, just like his recent goalkeeping form," "Crime, needs immediate investigation," "I wouldn't dare go near him on match day."

Those "legendary" shorts are likely to make their 364th appearance in the Manchester derby in the 31st round of the Premier League on April 6th, when Man City travel to Old Trafford.

Ederson currently has less than 18 months left on his contract with Man City, and extension talks have stalled. Many sources suggest he could move to the Saudi Pro League in the summer of 2025.
