From 4 p.m. on October 27, the North-South railway section through Hue City was flooded with water 15-20cm above the top of the rails, forcing the railway industry to block the road and temporarily stop train operations.

At the same time, the water level of the Huong River rose to the bottom of the girders of Bach Ho and Da Vien bridges, only 10cm from the bottom of the girders.

To protect the bridge, Binh Tri Thien Railway Joint Stock Company dispatched two trains carrying a total of 1,150 tons of rocks from Dong Hoi ( Quang Tri ) and Huong Thuy (Hue) to block the two bridges to prevent the risk of floods sweeping away the bridges.

At 10am on October 29, when the water level of the Huong River dropped to 1.2m below the bottom of the bridge girder, the company withdrew two trains to Hue station.

However, just 8 hours later, the Huong River flooded again, only 4cm from the bottom of the beam, Binh Tri Thien Railway Joint Stock Company had to send two trains carrying rocks back to Bach Ho and Da Vien bridges.

Due to the reduction of flood water on the Huong River, from 10:30 a.m. on October 30, Binh Tri Thien Railway Joint Stock Company pulled two trains carrying rocks from Bach Ho railway bridge and Da Vien railway bridge to Hue station.

In addition to threatening the two railway bridges, floodwaters also washed away rocks, exposing rails and destabilizing the roadbed of many railway sections passing through Hue.

As the water gradually receded, on the night of October 30, hundreds of railway officials and workers worked overtime, working through the night to repair, reinforce, and check the stability of the rail bed in order to reopen the North-South railway line as soon as possible.

By the early morning of October 31, the water level had receded below the railway bedrock. From 5am on October 31, Binh Tri Thien Railway Joint Stock Company restored and opened the North-South railway line through Hue. Trains were re-operated with a speed limit of 5km/h through the newly restored railway locations.

At 6:30 a.m., the train carrying rocks from Sy Hien station was ordered to run into Van Xa station to test the track and add rocks to the areas that had drifted or damaged the roadbed.

After 3 days of congestion, the entire North-South railway route through Hue has basically been cleared, except for train pairs SE5/6 and SE9/10, which are still temporarily suspended due to the impact of the previously adjusted schedule.

During the time the North-South railway line through Hue was cut off, the railway industry canceled dozens of passenger and freight trains.

At the same time, the railway industry organized the transfer of nearly 4,600 passengers by car from Huong Thuy station to Dong Ha station and vice versa. During the time the train stopped to wait for transfer, passengers were served free meals and drinks.
