New tricks in producing fake milk and fake medicine

The producers of fake drugs and fake milk use new criminal tricks, not counterfeiting the products in circulation but naming the drugs themselves and the company with a "virtual" headquarters.

Regarding the cases of fake milk and fake medicine recently inspected and discovered by the authorities, Mr. Tran Huu Linh - Director of the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) said that the Department has requested the provincial and municipal market management departments to conduct a general inspection of business activities, production of medicines, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, health protection foods, medicinal herbs, traditional medicine ingredients...

At the same time, authorities will strengthen management and supervision of e-commerce operating conditions and business models based on digital technology applications; handle individuals and organizations using social networking sites to trade in counterfeit goods, goods of unknown origin, goods that do not ensure quality, and goods that infringe intellectual property rights.

Through investigation, the authorities found that the subjects used fraudulent tricks, advertising the products as "milk" and "medicine", but according to the announcement and labeling of the products, they were "Health protection food", "Supplemental food", "Formulated nutritional product", "Food for special diets"...

The group of people making fake drugs uses a new criminal method. That is, they do not fake the products currently circulating on the market but instead create their own drug names and company names, most of which have "fake" headquarters abroad...

After production, under the guise of being pharmacists, the subjects use social networks to advertise and introduce "hand-carried goods". Counterfeit drugs are mixed with real drugs to deceive consumers.

The subjects rented the warehouse as a production site in a deserted area, dead-end, deep in the alley. The workers were family members or acquaintances, mainly from other localities, living in a closed warehouse, not in contact with the surrounding people, making it difficult for supervision and inspection.

Proposing solutions, Mr. Tran Huu Linh recommended that ministries and branches responsible for state management of quality, standards and safety of food, raw milk and agricultural products... need to increase coordination, provide and share information about businesses that have announced their products.

Specialized forces review and complete signed coordination regulations in combating smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, focusing on effective implementation.

Consumers choose reputable addresses and brands that are voted by many consumers, especially when shopping online; do not buy products or goods with unusually low colors, shapes, flavors, or prices.

In particular, you should quickly check the product through the manufacturer's hotline on the product packaging, information on the business's website, hotline phone number, look up business information on the public page of the tax authority, market management or intellectual property.

In addition, consumers also need to proactively apply technology to trace the origin of goods.

"When detecting unusual signs or suspecting counterfeit, fake or poor quality goods, consumers need to proactively inform and report to the authorities for timely verification and handling," Mr. Linh recommended.
