(Dan Tri) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife will visit Brazil to attend the G20 Summit, conduct bilateral activities in Rio de Janeiro and pay an official visit to the Dominican Republic.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , the working trip to Brazil and the Dominican Republic of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife will take place from November 16 to 21, at the invitation of Brazilian President, G20 Chair 2024 Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and his wife; Dominican Republic President Luis Rodolfo Abinader Corona and his wife. The Head of the Vietnamese Government, his wife and the high-ranking delegation will attend the G20 Summit and conduct a number of bilateral activities in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from November 16 to 19. From December 1, 2023, Brazil will officially assume the role of G20 Chair for the first time. In addition to the 21 members (G20 and the African Union), Brazil will invite 8 guest countries to participate in all G20-2024 activities. For Vietnam, Brazil will invite Vietnam to attend the Summit and plan a number of working groups of interest. With the theme "Building a Fair World and a Sustainable Planet", in the G20 Presidency year of 2024, Brazil will promote 3 priorities: Social inclusion and anti-poverty, energy transition and sustainable development, and reform of the global governance system. The G20 was established in 1999, including the G7 countries and major economies such as China, India, Brazil, Russia, Australia, Argentina, Mexico. South Korea, Indonesia, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU). The G20 accounts for 67% of the world's population, 85% of global GDP and 75% of international trade. Since 2008, the G20 has held 18 Summits, excluding extraordinary meetings. The 19th Summit was held in Brazil on November 18-19. Vietnam has been invited to the G20 Summit five times. With the visit to Dominica, this is the country with the 10th largest economy in Latin America, leading the Central America and Caribbean region. In 2023, Dominica's GDP growth will reach 121 billion USD, GDP per capita 11,300 USD. Vietnam and the Dominican Republic officially established diplomatic relations at the Ambassadorial level in July 2005. The two sides have signed a visa exemption agreement for diplomatic and official passports and are discussing the possibility of negotiating cooperation agreements on tourism, investment promotion and protection, science and technology, etc. The Dominican Republic highly appreciates Vietnam's achievements and position in serving as a bridge with Southeast Asia and Asia, and wishes to further promote bilateral relations, especially cooperation in the fields of oil and gas, energy, telecommunications, construction of cement factories, sanitary ware, electric vehicles, information technology and semiconductors, etc. Economic and trade relations between the two countries are still modest, with two-way trade in 2022 reaching more than 150 million USD; in 2023 reaching 95.8 million USD - down 14% compared to 2022; in the first 9 months of 2024 reaching 56 million USD. The two sides maintain coordination and cooperation at international forums and organizations of which both countries are members such as the United Nations, the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC), the World Trade Organization (WTO), etc.
