Prime Minister: Can Tho enterprises must pioneer and lead enterprises in the whole region

On the morning of April 21, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the National Assembly delegation of Can Tho City met with 300 voters who are representatives of enterprises, business associations, entrepreneurs and typical enterprises in Can Tho City before the 9th session of the 15th National Assembly.

Businesses hope for stable tax policy soon

Business voters have proposed many issues of concern. In particular, the Government and ministries should soon have support solutions and consider negotiating with partners to restore the previous tax rate or a more suitable one.

Businesses also recommended that there should be a specific assessment of the level and scope of potential impacts of the policy of applying high taxes on Vietnam's key export industries, especially those with large export proportions.

In addition, there must be effective mechanisms and solutions for Vietnam to enjoy the lowest tariff rates; simplify cumbersome procedures, cut and reduce unnecessary overlapping regulations to help businesses export conveniently and quickly.

There are solutions to diversify markets, access capital, improve competitiveness and develop key industries that need priority in the Mekong Delta region in the coming time.

Enterprises also recommended considering and adding specific policies to encourage, support and facilitate investment in building social housing, housing for workers, nurseries, and kindergartens, at reasonable prices for workers to rent or buy.

One issue of concern is the gold market. Businesses in Can Tho hope to soon have a direction to promote digitalization of the jewelry industry, contributing to creating a more transparent, fair and modern gold trading market in the future... Currently, the gold, silver and gemstone industry is not on the list of priority industries for digital transformation.

Voter Pham Thai Binh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Trung An High-Tech Agriculture Joint Stock Company, said that the Company has only participated in the 1 million hectares of low-emission high-quality rice project for more than a year, but the results have been very positive. This May, the Company exported a batch of 500 tons of high-quality rice with the low-carbon logo to the Japanese market, and the volume of subsequent batches will gradually increase.

In recent days, the Company has signed many contracts with UAE and Europe with very good export prices of no less than 700 USD/ton, with some lots over 1,150 USD.

Mr. Huynh Trung Quang, General Director of Tay Do Steel Company, expressed his appreciation that the leaders of the Party, State, General Secretary, and Prime Minister worked without days off, with the spirit of "only discussing work, not backtracking", adding motivation to businesses.

Sharing with businesses, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that the whole country has just simultaneously started construction of 80 large projects in all three regions, with the spirit of "special time, special spirit, special efforts and special results".

The Prime Minister emphasized that the Party and State identify private economic development as the most important driving force for growth; consistently support, build mechanisms and policies, protect the legitimate rights and interests of enterprises, especially in the context of many difficulties and challenges. The Prime Minister hopes that Can Tho enterprises must be pioneers and exemplary in the Mekong Delta region; develop more strongly, leading the development of enterprises in the whole region.

Regarding specific issues raised by Can Tho enterprises, the Prime Minister said that ministries, branches and localities have implemented positive solutions. Regarding the 46% reciprocal tax proposed by the US, the Prime Minister informed that policies, solutions and negotiations between the two sides on tax have shown positive signs.

Regarding gold prices, the Government is amending the decree on gold trading activities; has assigned the Ministry of Public Security to investigate and handle acts of smuggling, speculation, hoarding, price gouging, and tax evasion in gold trading.

The government is directing ministries, sectors and localities to support businesses, and find solutions to diversify markets and exports. At the same time, it is creating favorable conditions for businesses to access capital, improve competitiveness and operational efficiency; policies to support young people to borrow money to buy houses; policies to build social housing... are also being actively implemented.

The Prime Minister hopes that businesses will maximize their unique potential, outstanding opportunities, and competitive advantages of the country, region, and locality; strengthen solidarity; respond flexibly and effectively to external situations and shocks, and choose appropriate solutions to overcome difficulties and strive for development.

Can Tho City authorities continue to improve the investment and business environment; create conditions for businesses to develop to promote strong growth; resolutely review and remove difficult projects, resolve prolonged and wasteful projects, including some projects in the area. At the same time, resolutely implement the emulation movement "Join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" and promote the implementation of the Project to invest in the construction of at least 1 million social housing apartments.

The Prime Minister said that in the first four months of 2025, economic growth reached the highest level compared to the same period since 2020. Production and business flourished; social security was ensured. Vietnam's happiness index in 2025 increased by 8 places, ranking 46th, second only to Singapore in Southeast Asia. Many prestigious international organizations continue to highly appreciate the results and prospects of Vietnam's economy.

The most important session of the term

The 9th session of the 15th National Assembly was held 15 days earlier than scheduled. According to the Prime Minister, the 9th session is the most important and most document-rich session of this term, with a long duration and many important tasks.

Accordingly, the Constitution and related laws will be amended to reorganize the apparatus and organization of two-level local governments in a streamlined, effective, and closer-to-the-people direction; shifting from a passive state of solving work to a proactive state of serving people and businesses.

Amend many laws to remove bottlenecks and institutional bottlenecks, liberate production capacity, mobilize all resources to develop the country; build a self-reliant economy associated with proactive, active international integration, deeply, substantially and effectively.

The National Assembly will also decide on many important mechanisms and policies related to the international financial center; integration, private economic development, social housing... and strengthen supreme supervision.

In total, during this session, the National Assembly will review, comment on, and pass the largest number of documents ever (11 laws and resolutions related to the organization and reorganization of the apparatus and local government at two levels; 32 laws and resolutions to remove difficulties and promote development in various fields).
