These are the highlights emphasized by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in his report to the National Assembly (morning of October 20) on the results of implementing the socio -economic development plan for 2025 and the 5-year period 2021-2025, and the projected socio-economic development plan for 2026.
The Prime Minister acknowledged that the quality of education has improved; many higher education institutions have increased their rankings on prestigious international rankings. Currently, there are 5 Vietnamese representatives in the 2024 world university rankings of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), including: Duy Tan University (514th position, up 286 places); Ton Duc Thang University (group 721 - 730, up 280 places); Ho Chi Minh City National University and Hanoi National University (group 951 - 1,000); Hanoi University of Science and Technology (group 1,201 - 1,400).
In addition, 100% of Vietnamese students (194 students) participating in international Olympic competitions won prizes, including 61 Gold Medals, 69 Silver Medals, 51 Bronze Medals, 1 Encouragement Prize and 12 Certificates of Merit.
The Prime Minister said that tuition exemption and support will be implemented from kindergarten to high school from the 2025-2026 school year. Along with that, the Government will support lunch for children in boarding kindergartens in ethnic minority and disadvantaged areas; primary and secondary school students in border communes and some localities with conditions - have also proactively implemented support policies.
The State allocates resources to build 248 modern boarding and semi-boarding schools in land border communes, of which 100 schools will be completed before the new school year 2026-2027.
In the coming time, the Government will focus on developing high-quality human resources; improving the quality of education and training at all levels. At the same time, it will promote the use of English as a second language, teaching and learning artificial intelligence in high schools; equipping students with basic knowledge of culture and arts and enhancing physical education and sports activities.
The Government will also strongly develop national universities, excellent higher education institutions and high-quality vocational training institutions to meet labor market demands; quickly train 100,000 engineers in the fields of semiconductor chips and artificial intelligence. Along with that, deploy breakthrough scientific research programs and projects, focusing on 11 strategic technology groups.
