According to the special correspondent of VNA, on October 10, on the occasion of attending the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related Summits in Vientiane, Laos, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his gratitude to Malaysia, through the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Aid, for supporting Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of storm No. 3, emphasizing that this is a very meaningful action, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity and self-reliance of ASEAN member countries in responding to common challenges.

The two Prime Ministers highly appreciated the efforts of the two countries' ministries and sectors in implementing the agreed contents, contributing to deepening and deepening the Vietnam - Malaysia Strategic Partnership.

Discussing the direction of cooperation in the coming time, the two sides agreed to increase the exchange of high-level delegations; effectively implement bilateral cooperation mechanisms, including the Vietnam - Malaysia Joint Trade Committee to maintain positive growth momentum in trade turnover (in the first 8 months of 2024, it reached nearly 10 billion USD, up 25% over the same period last year); agreed to further deepen cooperation in the fields of security, education, aviation, tourism as well as new fields such as green economy , digital economy, towards bringing the relationship between the two countries to new heights.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh appreciated the two countries' Defense Ministries' active implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on Bilateral Defense Cooperation signed in December 2023; and proposed to soon sign cooperation agreements in mutually beneficial fields such as security, education, and aviation.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also proposed that the two sides establish a consultation and management mechanism on the sea, and treat captured fishing vessels and fishermen humanely in accordance with international law and the good relations between the two countries.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim agreed with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s proposal to soon bring the relationship between the two countries to a new height; affirmed his readiness to coordinate with Vietnam to comprehensively promote cooperation in all areas, including security - defense, trade - investment, marine economy and support Vietnam to soon remove the European Commission’s yellow card on illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Regarding regional issues, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated Malaysia's coordination in building a sustainable ASEAN Community with a central role in regional processes; affirmed that Vietnam is committed to supporting Malaysia in its role as ASEAN Chair 2025 and comprehensively implementing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also asked Malaysia, in its role as ASEAN Chair 2025, to closely coordinate with Vietnam and other countries to maintain ASEAN's common stance on regional and international issues, especially the East Sea.
