On the evening of January 10, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation returned to Hanoi, successfully concluding their visit to the Lao People's Democratic Republic and co-chairing the 47th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee from January 9-10 at the invitation of Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.
In just 2 days of working in Laos, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had nearly 20 activities with diverse and rich contents. In particular, the Prime Minister had meetings and contacts with all the highest-ranking leaders of the Lao Party, State and National Assembly ; visited and met with former high-ranking leaders of Laos.
Notably, during the working trip, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone chaired two important events: the 47th Meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee and the Vietnam-Laos Investment Cooperation Conference.
The two Prime Ministers also attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the Laos-Vietnam Friendship Park Project in the capital Vientiane - a gift from the Party, State and People of Vietnam to the Party, State and People of Laos.
The two sides agreed on new policies, approaches, new thinking, new ways of doing things, and higher determination and more effective measures to further develop the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Laos in the coming time.
The leaders of the two countries agreed to strengthen foreign political cooperation, promote security and defense cooperation, increase people-to-people exchanges, cultural exchange activities, education and training, etc.
The two countries' senior leaders have determined to elevate economic and investment cooperation in a new direction, focusing on practical efficiency and avoiding waste, becoming a solid pillar in the relationship between the two countries, actively supporting the process of building an independent and self-reliant economy of each country.
The two sides are determined to increase bilateral trade turnover by 10-15% in 2025 and soon reach 5 billion USD.
The two sides are also determined to clear up obstacles and completely resolve backlog projects in bilateral relations in recent times, creating momentum for the two sides to enter a new, more practical and effective development phase, especially in transport connectivity projects; at the same time, promoting the removal of difficulties for businesses to invest and do business conveniently, effectively and sustainably in each side...
At the 47th Session, the two countries signed the Coal and Electricity Purchase Agreement, completed the local currency payment framework and connected bilateral retail payments at the 47th Session.
On this occasion, the two Prime Ministers witnessed the agencies and partners of the two countries handing over licenses, documents, and cooperation agreements to implement projects with a total value of nearly 2 billion USD, including the bauxite mining project and construction of an alumina processing plant with a total investment of about 1 billion USD, the potassium salt mining and processing project with an investment of 522.4 million USD, 5 small hydropower projects with an investment of 197 million USD, etc.
The leaders of the two countries also agreed to continue exchanging and coordinating with Cambodia to promote projects and cooperation between the three countries to bring about practical economic efficiency, in line with development requirements in the new period, and to enhance economic connectivity, commensurate with political and diplomatic relations.
Regarding multilateral cooperation, the two sides pledged to continue to closely coordinate at international and regional forums, especially within ASEAN, and actively contribute to building a united community and ASEAN's central role in dealing with common challenges, including the East Sea issue and Mekong River water resources.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's working trip was a great success and achieved many important, effective, substantive and comprehensive results, contributing to strongly promoting the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
