The high-level General Debate of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly will be held under the theme “Rebuilding Trust and Promoting Global Solidarity: Scaling Up Action on the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals towards Peace , Prosperity, Progress and Sustainability for All”.
As an active and responsible member of the international community, holding important positions in many major multilateral mechanisms, making effective and substantial contributions in all aspects at multilateral forums, especially the United Nations, participating in the High-level General Debate of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Vietnam continues to implement its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation and development, diversification and multilateralization, continuing to deepen relations.

Recently, on September 10, 2023, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and President of the United States Joseph R. Biden Jr. met and held talks in Hanoi, Vietnam. The two leaders welcomed a new historic period of bilateral friendship and cooperation with the elevation of the bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation, and sustainable development. The United States supports a strong, independent, prosperous, and self-reliant Vietnam.
Within the framework of this new relationship, the two Leaders emphasized the fundamental principles guiding the Vietnam-US relationship, including respect for the United Nations Charter, international law, and respect for each other's political systems, independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Vietnam and the United States will continue to deepen cooperation in the following areas to ensure the interests of the two peoples, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and prosperity in the region and the world.
