Thua Thien Hue has no ships violating illegal fishing in foreign waters.

Reporting at the meeting, the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thua Thien Hue said that the aquaculture area in the first 6 months of the year in the province is estimated at 2,800 hectares, equal to the same period in 2022. The total aquatic product output in the first 6 months of the year is estimated at 31,000 tons, up 0.7% over the same period. The work of regenerating aquatic resources has been focused on, releasing a total of more than 710,800 shrimp, crabs, and fish of all kinds into water bodies.

The province currently has 679 registered fishing vessels; the rate of fishing vessels licensed for fishing is 677, reaching 99.7%; 2 vessels have not been licensed because the vessels are being converted to shore. All fishing vessels operating at sea have fishing licenses and are still in their registration period. 100% of fishing vessels operating at sea have active VMS equipment. Up to now, Thua Thien Hue has not had any fishing vessels lose VMS data connection for more than 10 days; the province's fishing vessels have not violated illegal fishing in foreign waters.

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Phuong informed that the fight against IUU fishing is one of the important tasks, therefore, the province has directed to strengthen the responsibility of local Party committees and authorities, and related organizations; attach responsibility to leaders in management, supervision, and implementation. Regularly organize inspections and checks on the implementation of the fight against IUU fishing. At the same time, post-inspection of the performance of public duties of officials assigned to perform the task.

"In the coming time, the province will implement more effective measures to overcome existing shortcomings and limitations," affirmed Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Phuong.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien acknowledged and highly appreciated the province's efforts in implementing measures to address the EC's recommendations on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development suggested that the province implement more drastic and synchronous solutions to meet the requirements and overcome the recommendations of the EC; build a long-term strategy in combating IUU by assessing the exploitation and farming situation; build plans; create livelihoods and sustainable career transitions for people...

On this occasion, the delegation inspected Thuan An fishing port and visited shrimp farming technology at Vietnam High-Tech Seafood Company Limited, Branch 1 in Hue.
