Reflecting to Thanh Nien reporter, LGBT artist - Sunny (Facebook owner Le Nghia - Sunny Lee), one of the members of the artist group (as planned) performing for the performance Nhu hinh voi bong by Suboi and Phap Kieu in Rap Viet All-Star Concert said: " While everyone was eagerly waiting for 5 minutes to shine on stage, the organizers came to announce: The Department came to ban the models from walking for the performance Nhu hinh voi bong , the reason is 'You cannot support the LGBT community so openly'".
"There's nothing to talk about in terms of customs because we've been as discreet as possible," Sunny said.
According to Sunny, "There's nothing to say about public etiquette because the group was asked by the organizers to choose modest outfits, and also sent them to the organizers for approval in advance. Everything was ok, so on the rehearsal day, the group only wore high heels and did not wear performance costumes," Sunny said.
Furthermore, before that, this performance in the final of Rap Viet season 3 was broadcast on television (HTV2), an LGBT group also performed. "In the concert, the organizers invited us to perform, with a larger team, including members of the Saigon Tan Thoi Lotto Group, Huong Nam and supermodel Minh Tu... Because they were on the big show, they invested a lot in costumes, some people rented them for double or triple the price. Although they were still paid, being banned from performing right when they were about to go on stage made them feel stunned, disappointed, and cried a lot from yesterday until now", Sunny added.
The performance "Like a shadow" by Phap Kieu and Suboi at the final round of Rap Viet season 3 conveyed the message that both wanted to convey: No matter what gender we are, we still have the right to be beautiful and shine.
"When I got home, I was restless because I did nothing wrong to have such negative prejudices about the community. Each person went to their own corner, the whole group immersed themselves in thoughts about their own future...", Sunny's sharing on her personal page has been receiving great sympathy from the audience as well as the LGBT community.
Regarding this incident, we contacted the Rap Viet All-Star Concert organizers to clarify whether or not the Department (specifically which department) came to ban the performance but have not received a response.
Thanh Nien reporters also sent the above information to the leaders of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City (the unit known to be the place that grants permission to organize performances in Ho Chi Minh City). A representative of this Department said: "We have not heard from the program supervision department about this; but we will review which department this is related to, and if the Rap Viet concert has not requested permission for this content, we will invite the unit to clarify."
