On June 6, the Department of Health of Tien Giang province announced that it had just issued an urgent dispatch requesting medical examination and treatment facilities, the Tien Giang Provincial Center for Disease Control, the Center for Testing Drugs, Cosmetics, Food, and pharmaceutical businesses in the area to absolutely not trade, sell, or use counterfeit products.

Long An province authorities discovered 11,856 cans of powdered milk of unknown origin at a house in Can Duoc district.

According to information from the Drug Administration of Vietnam ( Ministry of Health ), the counterfeit products include: Clorocid TW3 tablets (Cloramphenicol 250mg), Tetracycline TW3 tablets, Pharcoter tablets, counterfeit Neo-Codion products and 16 other products not on the list of drugs that have been granted circulation registration certificates by the Ministry of Health.

Accordingly, the Tien Giang Provincial Department of Health directed pharmaceutical businesses and medical examination and treatment facilities in Tien Giang province not to trade, sell, or use the above-mentioned counterfeit products; review the drug purchase and supply process, ensure that the drugs supplied are licensed for circulation and from legal pharmaceutical businesses, with full invoices and documents.

Tien Giang Provincial People's Committee requested the relevant agencies to strengthen propaganda so that people and businesses know about fake drugs, do not trade or use them. At the same time, strengthen inspection and examination of production, business and trading establishments, strictly handle violations according to regulations. Advise people to only buy drugs at legal pharmaceutical businesses, do not buy and sell drugs of unknown origin.

* Faced with the complicated situation of production and trade of counterfeit medicines, health food and fake milk in many localities, the People's Committee of Long An province has requested functional departments, branches, People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to urgently strengthen inspection and handling of cases of production and trade of counterfeit medicines, health food and distribution of fake milk.

Accordingly, the Director of the Department of Health, Department of Industry and Trade, Provincial Police, together with heads of relevant departments, branches, agencies and Chairmen of People's Committees of localities, according to their functions and tasks, is required to strictly control and strictly handle violations.

Dr. Huynh Minh Phuc, Director of the Long An Provincial Department of Health, said that the province has established 206 interdisciplinary inspection teams from the provincial to district and commune levels. Accordingly, the teams have inspected 2,970 food production and trading establishments in the area and discovered 53 establishments that did not meet the standards. The authorities are handling the violations according to regulations.
