“Tien Linh was injured but still wanted to come to the stadium to cheer on his teammates. I have no one in the squad capable of replacing him. Tien Linh is a senior, a key player, always shouldering great responsibility in the team," coach Nguyen Anh Duc said about Tien Linh after the match against CAHN on May 30.
In the make-up match between Binh Duong and CAHN, round 23 of V.League 2024/25, Tien Linh was only registered as a reserve and did not enter the field. His replacement was Ha Duc Chinh. However, this was a match in which both Duc Chinh and Minh Khoa were "unlucky" and lacked sharpness in finishing. Despite having the advantage of leading, the team from Thu Dau Mot lost the advantage and lost 1-3 to the away team.
According to the plan, Tien Linh will join the Vietnam team today. However, the possibility of him being able to play in the match between Vietnam and Malaysia on June 10 is still open. The team's doctors will monitor and evaluate the specific condition of the striker born in 1997 in the coming days.
Tien Linh's injury has given coach Kim Sang-sik an additional headache as he had to say goodbye to two key defenders, Nguyen Thanh Binh and Bui Hoang Viet Anh, for similar reasons. To fill that void, the Korean coach has called up Dang Van Toi and promoted Pham Ly Duc from U22 Vietnam.
If Tien Linh does not recover in time, the Vietnamese team will lack one of the most important links in the attack. The striker born in 1997 has been the team's main scorer in recent years.
With a very short preparation time, many players’ physical condition not being guaranteed and injuries continuously appearing, coach Kim Sang-sik is facing the biggest challenge since taking over the team. The confrontation with Malaysia at Bukit Jalil, which was already predicted to be difficult, is now more pressure than ever for the Vietnamese team.
