Coffee prices rose on Tuesday, with Arabica hitting a six-week high and Robusta hitting a three-week high. A lack of sales by Brazilian farmers hoping for higher prices tightened supplies in the cash market and supported prices.
Robusta supplies are tight as slowing exports from Vietnam have tightened the global coffee market, supporting rising prices, while recent weather conditions in both Brazil and Vietnam have raised concerns about the future of the upcoming harvests in both countries.
Brazilian coffee producers will slow sales in the coming months as they wait to see the size of the new crop, with the first reliable estimates likely only around February and March next year, according to broker Escritório Carvalhaes.
Comunicaffe said it was still too early to predict the impact of the storm on coffee growing areas, although November is traditionally a dry month, suitable for harvesting and drying conditions, and rain could disrupt ongoing harvesting activities.
An important factor that could have a strong impact on coffee prices next week is the EU’s decision on November 13-14 on the implementation date of the European Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).
Investors are awaiting clearer signals on the policies of Mr. Trump, who just declared victory in the US presidential election. This situation could cause capital to move to speculative exchanges, including coffee, and create the basis for an upward trend in prices this week.
