Continuing tradition, building a regular, elite, modern police force

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the People's Public Security Traditional Day (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and the 20th anniversary of the National Security Protection Day (August 19, 2005 - August 19, 2025), Major General Nguyen Van Han - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Director of the Provincial Public Security Department had an interview with reporters of An Giang Provincial Newspaper and Radio - Television about the orientation to build a regular, elite, modern provincial Public Security force (LLCA) close to the people in the new period.

- Reporter: Could you please share about the achievements of An Giang Provincial Police Department over the past 80 years and the orientations in the new period?

- Major General Nguyen Van Han: After 80 years of building, fighting and growing, the An Giang Provincial Police Department has made its mark with many outstanding achievements and feats. Those achievements were made with the sweat, tears and blood of generations of officers and soldiers of the entire province's Police. Those silent but noble sacrifices have contributed greatly to the cause of national liberation, national defense and maintaining social order and safety.

Continuing the precious tradition of the People's Public Security Forces is a sacred responsibility and a great pride. The Party Committee and the Provincial Public Security Department always set high requirements in leadership, direction, innovation of thinking, strengthening discipline and order; building an increasingly clean, disciplined, elite and modern force. We pay special attention to political education, ideology, ethics and lifestyle; nurturing revolutionary ideals for officers and soldiers, especially the younger generation, so that each police officer and soldier today is truly a worthy successor to the previous generation.

The cause of national security protection, maintaining social order and safety has never been easy. In any circumstances, the provincial police force has overcome difficulties, challenges and dangers. Many officers and soldiers have not been afraid of hardships and sacrifices to protect the peaceful and happy lives of the people. The officers and soldiers who stay in remote areas and border areas day and night, spend sleepless nights fighting against crime... are living proof of the absolute loyalty, bravery and sense of responsibility of the police force towards the Party, the Fatherland and the people.

Entering a new era - the era of the Vietnamese people's rise along with the development of the country, more than ever, the image of police officers must be constantly cultivated and trained. We clearly define the direction: Continue to tighten discipline and order; unite, enhance political mettle, revolutionary vigilance; master the law, master professional skills; promote digital transformation in professional work; strengthen coordination with the army, sectors, levels and seek support and assistance from the people, thereby building a solid people's security posture associated with national defense; closely attached to the people.

Only when attached to and relying on the people, the People's Public Security can truly be strong and maintain a beautiful image in the hearts of the people, worthy of the slogan "People's Public Security - forgetting themselves for the country, serving the people".

- Reporter: As a standing agency, how does the Provincial Police coordinate with agencies, departments and branches to advise the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee to carry out the movement of the whole people to protect the Fatherland in the province?

- Major General Nguyen Van Han: The provincial police strengthen coordination with the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, departments, branches, and organizations to promote the combined strength of the entire political system in building a mass movement to protect the Fatherland, contributing to ensuring security and order at the grassroots level.

The provincial police directed the police forces of units and localities to strengthen exchanges and coordination at all levels and sectors to effectively implement the work of building the movement of the entire people to protect the Fatherland and mass mobilization work; advise on organizing the National Day of Protecting the Fatherland with many practical activities such as returning to the source, repaying gratitude, reducing poverty; visiting and encouraging the forces participating in protecting the Fatherland and order at the grassroots level; giving gifts to policy beneficiaries, poor and studious students, etc.

The movement not only contributes to national security, crime prevention and control, but also creates a favorable environment for economic development, investment attraction, and improvement of people's material and spiritual life. Practices in our province in recent times have shown that wherever the movement is well maintained and has the active participation of the people, security and order are stable, and socio-economic development indicators have achieved high results. For the People's Public Security Forces, the People are the "eyes and ears" in the work of grasping the situation, detecting and fighting all types of crimes; protecting internal security, network security, social order and safety. It can be said that the movement helps the People's Public Security Forces get closer to the people, build trust, mobilize the strength of the entire political system and the entire people in the work of protecting the Fatherland early, from afar, from the grassroots.

In order for the movement to become more in-depth and effective, in my opinion, we need to focus on a number of solutions. First of all, we need to strengthen propaganda and education work, innovate content and forms to suit each target group and locality; integrate the movement with national target programs such as building new rural areas and civilized urban areas. At the same time, we need to promote the role of grassroots police, especially the commune police, in advising the Party Committee, the government and coordinating with departments, branches and organizations to mobilize people to participate in the movement.

Another important solution is to regularly pay attention to consolidating, perfecting, and replicating advanced models and examples; promptly commending collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in participating in national security protection. Strengthening inter-sectoral coordination and regional linkages, especially in border areas, industrial parks, new residential areas, etc., so that the work of ensuring security and order is continuous and sustainable. In addition, it is also necessary to pay attention to building a clean, strong, close-to-the-people, listening-to-the-people and serving-the-people LLCA.
