Continue to implement the measles vaccination campaign

According to the City Center for Disease Control, Da Nang has completed and exceeded the target of the second and first phase of the measles vaccination campaign in March and April 2025. The city is currently preparing conditions to conduct the second and third phase of the campaign.

According to the Ministry of Health 's plan, in this phase, Da Nang will be provided with an additional 2,200 doses of measles-containing vaccine to vaccinate children aged 11-15. The leader of the city's Department of Health said that he has requested the city's Center for Disease Control to urgently receive vaccines from the Ministry of Health and promptly distribute them to units to organize vaccinations for children.

At the same time, based on the quantity and demand for vaccines in the locality, guide units to develop plans and set up appropriate vaccination points to ensure vaccination safety, implementation progress and effective use of the number of vaccines provided.

Along with that, promote communication about the measles vaccination campaign; guide the dissemination of the meaning and benefits of supplementary vaccination activities to teachers at schools, and mobilize parents to agree to let their children participate in vaccination. District and county health centers urgently coordinate with relevant units to advise the district and county People's Committees to continue implementing the measles vaccination campaign for children to ensure the achievement of the set goals and progress.

Dr. Nguyen Dai Vinh, Director of the City Center for Disease Control, said that after receiving the vaccine from the Ministry of Health, the unit will immediately distribute it to units to implement vaccination according to the set plan. Units will apply appropriate vaccination methods based on actual conditions and local characteristics to quickly cover the vaccine to achieve effective community immunity. Organize a measles-containing vaccination campaign at qualified vaccination facilities, ward and commune health stations and junior high schools in one or more batches in clusters of districts, wards and communes depending on the conditions of each locality.

At the same time, review and vaccinate children who are registered or unregistered and present in the locality at the time of implementation to limit the number of children who are missed. In particular, ensure the conditions for establishing vaccination points according to regulations and ensure vaccination safety. Arrange adequate equipment, drugs, human resources, and means of transport to promptly handle adverse events after vaccination.

According to the People's Committee of Hoa Vang district, as soon as the plan to deploy the second and third measles vaccination campaign was made, the locality directed units and schools to closely coordinate with the health sector to review, make a list and proactively notify children to get vaccinated according to the plan.

At the same time, direct schools and commune People's Committees to review and update vaccination targets, mobilize forces to "go to every alley, knock on every door, check every target" so as not to miss any vaccination targets. The district and communes actively promote propaganda about the purpose, importance, and benefits of the measles and measles-rubella vaccination campaign for the people.

In particular, there are measures and solutions to inform and propagate about the campaign and vaccination schedule for children to parents and students, especially at the beginning of the summer vacation. The leader of Hoa Khuong Commune Health Station (Hoa Vang District) said that in addition to coordinating with departments and organizations to organize propaganda and review subjects, the unit has proactively prepared adequate facilities and human resources to ensure safe and effective vaccination.

At the same time, remind medical staff to strictly follow the safe vaccination process throughout the implementation process, from screening, counseling parents to monitoring post-vaccination reactions. In particular, before vaccination, children are thoroughly examined and consulted. After vaccination, they continue to be monitored at the health station for 30 minutes to detect and promptly handle any unusual reactions.

Dr. Vo Thu Tung, Deputy Director of the City Department of Health, said that the second and third measles vaccination campaign in 2025 for children aged 11-15 in the city is expected to begin on May 28. The health sector will proactively coordinate with units and localities to set up appropriate vaccination sites and carry out rolling vaccinations in each locality.

The health sector will take advantage of the experience gained from implementing previous vaccination campaigns to apply in this phase, especially ensuring safe vaccination for children is a top priority for the health sector.

With the participation of the entire health system, the coordination of the education sector and localities, the third measles vaccination campaign in 2025 in the city will be completed before May 30. Measles vaccination is not only a personal protection measure but also an important action to protect public health, especially vulnerable groups and those at high risk of contracting the disease. Therefore, people need to proactively vaccinate their children against measles to reduce the incidence and mortality caused by measles.
