"Little Defender" revealed, compact but not lacking in off-road qualities

Recently, test images of the Land Rover Defender mini SUV were suddenly leaked on social networks with an exterior that still has a strong off-road feel.

According to plan, the new Land Rover Defender mini SUV could be launched globally in 2027 with the model code name 2028. This model is considered a reasonable expansion for the Defender product line - JLR's strongest sub-brand today.

Compared to the current Land Rover Defender SUV , this miniature version is significantly more compact, comparable to models such as the Skoda Kodiaq or Hyundai Santa Fe. However, the car still retains the Defender's signature design spirit with a wide body, flared fenders, squared rear end and extended hood.

Some of the noticeable changes are the steeper windshield, slimmer headlights and a forward-leaning C-pillar, creating a more modern and agile look.

The “Little Defender” is built on the all-new EMA (Electrified Modular Architecture) platform, which JLR has developed specifically for future pure electric vehicles such as the Range Rover Evoque, Velar or Discovery Sport. The EMA platform supports 800-volt technology, enabling the vehicle to be super-fast charged with a maximum capacity of up to 350 kW, allowing the battery to be fully charged in less than 18 minutes.

The Land Rover Defender mini is expected to be produced at JLR's Halewood plant in Merseyside, northwest England. The batteries used in the vehicle will be supplied from a new manufacturing facility in Somerset, part of JLR's large-scale electrification strategy. JLR has not yet officially announced the name of the new electric SUV.

However, many sources say that the car could be called Defender 80 or Defender Sport. The Defender Sport name seems quite reasonable, because the company has applied this suffix to the Discovery Sport line and the new prototype design also shares some lines such as embossed lines and slanted C-pillars, similar to the Discovery Sport.

Although it is still too early to confirm the detailed equipment or specific price, many people expect the price of the Defender sub-car to be significantly lower than the standard Defender version, thereby expanding the target customer group of the Defender brand.
