Kinhtedothi - To make Quoc Oai a popular tourist destination, the local government needs to upgrade the quality of services and connect tourist destinations with travel businesses. This was the suggestion made by businesses to the People's Committee of Quoc Oai district during a survey of tourist destinations in Quoc Oai (November 15).
A land rich in potential.
Quoc Oai District, with its advantageous semi-mountainous terrain and a mix of plains and hills, boasts many beautiful natural landscapes. Furthermore, Quoc Oai has a rich history and culture deeply rooted in the Doai region, with 220 historical, cultural, architectural, and artistic relics. Among these are two special national relics: Thầy Pagoda (Sai Son commune), associated with the life and name of Zen Master Tu Dao Hanh, and So Temple (Cong Hoa commune), with its unique architecture.
In addition, Quoc Oai has many forms of intangible cultural heritage such as: Tuong opera in Duong Coc (Dong Quang commune); Cheo opera in Dai Thanh, Do singing in Liep Tuyet, water puppetry in Sai Son, gong culture in Phu Man, Dong Xuan…

Besides its rich potential in historical, cultural, and architectural relics, Quoc Oai district also boasts the Tuan Chau Hanoi tourist, ecological, and entertainment complex, an attractive destination for many tourists. It features dolphin and seal shows, a traditional market, and especially the "Essence of Northern Vietnam" live performance. The meticulously staged show, with its many unique performances showcasing traditional folk culture in a modern style, leaves visitors with a lasting impression of the culture of the Red River Delta.
Furthermore, Quoc Oai has great potential for developing agricultural and rural tourism; community-based tourism following a green tourism approach; and experiential tourism in the Dong Xuan and Phu Man areas. There are also famous craft villages that can provide unique experiences for tourists, such as the Ngoc Than carpentry village (Ngoc My commune) and the So village vermicelli-making village (Cong Hoa commune).

Despite having ample resources for developing various types of tourism, Quoc Oai district has yet to develop tours and routes that effectively connect historical sites into attractive destinations. Currently, Quoc Oai only attracts tourists to visit the Thầy Pagoda National Special Historical Site and the Tuan Chau Hanoi eco-tourism and entertainment area. However, the number of visitors remains modest, reaching only about 300,000 people per year...
Suggestions to help Quoc Oai attract tourists.
According to tourism experts, despite having many unique historical and cultural relics in Hanoi and the modern Tuan Chau entertainment complex, Quoc Oai only attracts individual tourists and lacks the capacity to attract group tours. Some homestay resorts operate spontaneously and do not have sufficient capacity to accommodate new groups.
At the Conference on Upgrading Service Quality and Connecting Tourism Destinations in Quoc Oai District with Travel Businesses in Hanoi (November 15th), Chairman of the Hanoi Travel Association, Phung Quang Thang, suggested that Quoc Oai needs a well-planned tourism investment and development strategy to exploit the local potential and build new tourist tours. “With many historical relics, Quoc Oai has the potential for cultural and spiritual tourism, but to attract tourists, in addition to spiritual tourism, the locality should aim for green tourism, renewing the landscape and paying attention to environmental protection,” Mr. Thang suggested.

Agreeing with this opinion, Ms. Duong Thanh Hang, Director of SUN SMILE TRAVEL Vietnam, and other tourism businesses share the view that while tourism development aims to generate income for the people, the current tourism service system in the district is both inadequate and weak, thus failing to create opportunities for tourists to spend money.
"To increase tourist spending and create opportunities for local people to increase their income, Quoc Oai district should invest in tourism service systems at tourist attractions. If the funding from the state budget is insufficient, then the district should promote the socialization of capital. This is also a way to attract tourism businesses to participate in developing the tourism service system in the district," Ms. Hang suggested.
Similarly, Vu Van Tuyen, Director of Travelogy Vietnam, believes that to attract tourists to visit and relax, Quoc Oai district needs to create a "boost" to awaken its tourism potential. This requires proactively renewing products, investing resources to renovate and restore historical sites, developing tourism tours and routes, and strengthening promotion through information channels and social media platforms.

Responding to suggestions and proposals from tourism businesses, Vice Chairman of Quoc Oai District People's Committee Hoang Nguyen Ung stated that, in order for tourism in Quoc Oai to truly become a key economic sector, the district will focus on implementing a comprehensive master plan, while also calling for investment in tourism infrastructure, and building models for organizing, managing, and exploiting tourist areas and attractions.
There are programs to restore and preserve traditional arts and crafts to create souvenir products for tourists. In particular, the district also invites and facilitates businesses, organizations, and individuals to invest in building tourism infrastructure and developing new tourism products and tours such as agricultural tourism, experiential tourism, and homestay tourism to attract visitors to Quoc Oai.
“Through these activities, Quoc Oai district will become an ideal choice and destination for many tourists and will be a shining example of sustainable tourism economic development in Hanoi. At that time, the number of visitors to Quoc Oai will not only stop at the current 300,000, but will increase to 1-1.5 million visitors per year in the 2025-2030 period,” Mr. Ung hoped.
Regarding support for Quoc Oai district in innovating and upgrading its tourism products to increase its attractiveness to tourists, from the perspective of the management agency, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism Tran Trung Hieu said that in the coming time, the Hanoi Department of Tourism will support Quoc Oai district in promotion and human resource training.
At the same time, continue organizing survey trips to new destinations in Quoc Oai, connecting travel agencies with the locality to build linked products, creating effectiveness in attracting international tourists when staying in Hanoi.
